But he might have been pissed-up (as per usual by all accounts) and got into the garage to have a kip, lit some fire to keep warm, (I noticed propane bottles in one of the Echo photos) and the place set alight.

Was the body found on the 19th then, the day of the fire or has it been discovered since then. If it was the 19th then why did it take nearly a week to announce it.

Pretty sure that the bungalow has been empty a number of months, they seemed to empty the contents (most being left on the driveway), so I wonder if he’s just broke in and dossed there for a night and as you say accidentally set it on fire trapping himself. When I walked past on the day after the fire it looked loaded with absolute shit inside the garage, so plenty of flammable material including a load of gas bottles.

I went to Broadway school with Mark 'Elvis' Herron, same year. He wore geggs, he looked like Elvis Costello at the time. He was a twin, I played footy with their Sammy. They lived just off the Broadway, in Broadstairs Court, only a minute from the school.
His elder sister Margy was posting on Facebook a couple of weeks back asking if anyone had any school pictures of Mark. I only had a couple of school footy team pictures of me and Sammy. She was still saying it was murder then so it will come as a shock to the family nobody else is involved.
Mark wasn't the brightest but no real bother. He obviously lost his way, all his arrests were drink related. He self destructed in the end. Shame.
