Heard same 3pm official announcement apparently

first #can demolished by 3.01pm.
The MP for international trade has called KSAs reaction to the WTO appalling.

You continue with that selective reading though 😂

MP for international trade ?? Who do you mean, Liz Truss the Secretary of State for international trade or the Scottish bloke from the SNP ?

No mate the PL powers that be. It’s the piracy issue, I don’t think they care about any ethics. I imagine them looking at the WTO report and just desperately trying to argue that it’s against the fit and proper persons test
Like you say, they don't care about ethics, so rejecting it will be down to the piracy issue. An issue that will get worse if it is blocked. Can't see KSA giving too much of a shit about piracy if they're not losing out.

Same token if it doesn’t get blocked, with representation from FIFA, EUFA, the Bundesliga, and all those people who were fined thousands of pounds for illegal streaming. Probably some even from your neck of the woods

If it isn't blocked, Saudi Arabia will likely bid for the broadcast rights. If they win the rights they'll want to help protect their investment.

Wonder how they’d react if Qatar decide to have a go at the piracy malarkey. Look a hypocritical if they objected.
It would be astounding if a government was hypocritical...
The current deal has two years left on it or thereabouts if memory serves. You are desperate for it to go through and clinging on to every hope possible
The reverse could be said for yourself.

fwiw "The contract tender is due to hit the market in 2021, with BeIN currently paying UK£500 million (US$611 million) for its three-year deal which expires in 2022."

Will the government stay out of it and If so for how long?

I don't often find myself agreeing with a lost mag, but of course they don't get a feck about ethics...that issue can be kicked down the road for a future date in time. But I said a 1000 pages ago that the benefit to the PL (of Saudi's taking over) is tiny in comparison to the potential negative baggage the Saudi's bring with them.

Surely the government would be critical if they d

Fwiw I believe you are blinded by your blinkered belief that the deal is all but over the finishing line which takes away your objectivity. Not one negative on the takeover from you if I am not mistaken?

How do you think high level business is conducted?

Oh go on man let us buy Newcastle and I promise well bid loads of money next year 😂

It's a highest bidder wins process. There is nothing the Saudis can do to guarantee they'll purchase the TV rights other than give their word which we all know can't be trusted.

Angus MacNeil

like I said earlier, a low ranking member of the SNP isn’t going to have much clout with the governments Secretary of State for international trade or the foreign minister. That’s not even bias it’s just fact.

If this was us I’d be pretty apoplectic about the hypocrisy of it all like. What can the government say? It’s ok for us to sell you billions of dollars worth of arms etc but you can’t own one of our football clubs? It probably makes me some sort of moral free shyster but if they were buying us I wouldn’t give 2 fucks about their human rights record. They are one of plenty of despot regimes around the world that occupy my thoughts around about zero % of the time. I don’t give 2 fucks that my iPhone was knocked out in China for example who are the poster boys of human rights issues. It looks canny minty nonetheless. If any of these cowboys want to spunk billions on safc my arms are open in a welcoming embrace 😂
