A very powerful moment in British sport

I agree with the 3 words themselves - black lives do matter & I support equality.

However, the organisation behind it is a bit more sinister. Have a look on their gofundme page - they want to abolish the police and want to bring down the existing system (without a feasible suggestion for an alternative).

By getting "black lives matter" on each of the player's shirts the premier league are now deemed to be supporting this, not sure how they'll square that when crowds return and police are needed.

I'd rather they had "kick racism out" on the back of their shirts than "black lives matter"
Spot on...

no, now you're wrong there

it is not just looking back with no point

it is acknowledging the wrongs done to others, those that have no voice or ability to stand up for themselves, now that is important, so important

it feeds the future that we need to see affecting real change

also in support of Guardiola it is not he whom is without sin that should cast the first stone or shut up... none of us are perfect, especially regarding our pay masters but he has a voice and it is essential that those with privilege take a stand, or a knee or make a statement because that is where change is brought

no one would have listened to a mother who couldn't feed her children, but they listen to Rashford
no one would listen to Irish Catholics asking that they not be fucked so bad, it took the Protestants and the English who had a voice to bring about effective change

this is a bitter pill to swallow

Guardiola has a voice and I do believe a good heart, he is trying to address an actual issue that needs to be addressed, he doesn't have to be immaculate to do so

it is like when people expect socialists to be poor and ill kempt and shit, otherwise they aren't "proper" socialists... that is ludicrous

this is not the ascetic age, we don't have to run off to live on a pillar in the desert to lend weight to our words, you can be a regular human type person and still have a voice
He's wrong or you disagree?

Fact v opinion iirc

Kneel before Zod.......your post is the elephant I the room isn't it. Dangerous people with dangerous ideas. In the rush to ensure they don't miss joining in while it's high profile, this isn't considered.....

he's wrong on that point in my opinion where he says something like it is a fact that there is no point in looking back at the past where nothing can be done

my point there is a point in looking back and reassessing so we learn from the past, to show solidarity and support for those that are disenfranchised etc

I think a lot of those protesting definitely don't want our police defunded. The vast majority of protesters are also not pulling down and defacing statues either.
Maybe not, but that is what BLM stands for and aim to do. The protesters should seek to distance themselves from BLM. The Premier League have done the opposite.

The black lives matter movement, on a whole, is a human rights issue not a political issue.

The difference between the poppy and black lives matter is that the poppy is not allowed for fear of offending the victims in Ireland etc, but if you don't allow black lives matter that is for fear of offending the perpetrators.

Yes, it is shallow to kneel, but these men are role models world wide. Hopefully this can raise awareness of the movement everywhere.

I accept that BLM and some people feel a lot stronger than me about it so when I turn the News on I expect to see and hear what has been going on around the World.
I do not expect to see it when I decide to have an hour and a half of relaxation watching Football. Mind I also disagreed with Man City taking the opportunity to use the space made available with empty seats to shove even more advertising down our throats.

Careful. They’ll be onto you now and calling you a racist because your not simply falling in line. Fwiw I totally agree with you and kick out racism would have been far more appropriate and supports a fantastic movement that is already in place within football.

'Kick it Out' isn't currently trendy or high profile enough to be deemed worth of mass support.

Not sure that taking the side of racists would be "respectable", no matter the motivations.
The side of the racists?!
Again this lunacy is why they should stand up against this sort of extremism.
Should wear a Kick Racism Out Of Football t-shirt, and refuse to take a kneel. Stick the fingers up at the "do what I say or you're a racist" biggots.

I think most reasonable & fair minded people will accept the point & take it at face value, though the self righteous bigots will be unable to as everything is binary to them & they only deal in absolutes.
