A very powerful moment in British sport

Black Lives Matters is about racial equality. There's nothing political about it.

OK so here's where the political aspect comes in...

They have a stance on:

- the extent to which inequality exists.
- what strategies should be adopted to challenge inequality.
- what does 'racial equality' look like.

This is where the contention comes in. These questions will be debated for years to come. Black Lives Matter have a stance on all of the above which may be at odds with many other political groups. It's not as simple as saying 'they are for racial equality'. Determining what 'racial equality' means and how it is achieved are significantly 'political'.

The poppy should be the choice of each individual player if they want to wear it or not. Same as we in the general public has that choice.

Problem is players have seen the abuse James McClean gets for it, despite have perfectly legitimate reasons for not doing so, and probably don’t want the same treatment.

Yup. He's still a knacker mind.

Bit ironic some of them supporting the NHS when some arseholes flagrantly broke the rules !? Just corporate sheep hoping ‘footballers’ will be seen to care and therefore trying to appear not to be just about generating £££££

Good to see the Premier League standing up for human rights.

Let's hope they continue to do so.

Whilst simultaneously taking money for coverage from a regime where 40-odd people have died building world cup stadiums as part of slave labour and are considering accepting one of the worst regimes of the last century with regards to human rights as owners of our friends up the road.
Not to mention the hosts of tonight game being owned by a not particularly progressive bunch of lads, broadcast by a company owned by an organisation that has a publication that was behind Hitler in the 1930s, not to mention the long-standing Ford sponsorship of the coverage. Old Henry loved all colours, creeds and religions.

It gave me a real warm feeling inside knowing the Premier League were behind such a cause.

I'm sorry but there's a massive silent majority who disagree with you right here in this country. If there is contention no matter how convinced you are that you are advocating what is right there will be others who will seek to challenge it. There will be countless issues that people consider to be about 'equality' that others will oppose. Football should be very careful before opening up to everyone else to air political views. What about 'free Gaza' or 'support Hamas'. Maybe 'Free Chechnya' or 'Support for Kurds'. Many will have support but others will see it as inflammatory. It's a precedent that will become divisive.
To summarise then..
"Some people are not racist.
Other people are racist.
Therefore non-racists should not disagree with racists."

Lads and lasses I haven't been on here for months and seen what a sh*tshow it has become because of what has happened. No one has a problem with the BLM if it is peaceful but the problem is it has been hijacked by a set of thugs, smashing up shops, attacking people white or black, injurying police, tearing down statues because it offends them. Ok some of these statues are not the best role models but it is our history and something we don't just brush under the carpet because some snowflakes are offended, we learn from it to be better. Right so this Floyd lad being made into a hero, the guy was a criminal not a saint, disgusting what the cop did to him and he should be done for murder but where is the outrage for the white people killed by cops or the other black and white civilians killed by these BLM thugs and mobs, businesses destroyed? Seeing some of our police forces taking a knee and bowing to this mob is a joke and our veterans being told by the same police who let BLM deface statues the week before, threaten to arrest them, seeing these overpaid premier league footballers and officials taking a knee is a joke and then throwing it in our faces on the back of their shirts, hearing idiots like Joshua, Hamilton, Sterling and the media throw this BLM rubbish in our faces. Where is the media and the BLM with their facts about black on black murders being a lot worse, blacks killing whites is way more, blacks killing police officers, blacks committing more crime. I don't care what race or religion you are, if you going to play the race card at everything then you need to grow up, will end with POLITICS FORUM THIS SHITE!

Players taking to the knee before kick off

bbc radio 5 live.

Fuck off.
The English FA and the Premiership have had massive campaigns to Kick it Out etc

This country is suffering riots on this very subject

Yes football should address this

no one should be forced to take the knee, just as no one should be forced not to take the knee

I think the context and the follow up and support and fidelity to this notion are important in deciding whether or not this was the right thing to do, and I don't know those so at the moment I will err on the side of faith in doing the right thing and see this as a good thing
