See Sima now I'm a little lost. I have debated that Ashley just wanted to survive with one of your lot today yet Pardew was backed by signing.

Cabaye french league title winning captain
Demba Ba who had just turned down 50k a week at West Ham
Santon from Inter Milan for 5m
Cisse for 9m in the middle of the season when you were nowhere near relegation.

I thought Ashley only wanted to survive?

Transfer loophole exploited then sold at the first chance for profit
Free Transfer but in hindsight possibly only signed due to a paltry release clause that was activated 18 months later.

Probably worth mentioning how that summer you'd signed the likes of Seb Larsson, Connor Wickham, Craig Gardener and some other hopeless fuckers and we were supposed to be green with envy.

you were 5 points clear from relegation and 5 points from 9th.

Got you to the Quarter finals of the Europa. Squads suffer from Europe all the time. He overachieved to get you 5th and now you criticise him.

Whether you like it or not. You were in your second premier League season since promotion and finished 5th. The following season you reached a European QF. Criticising a league position is scraping the barrell

Tried to take advantage of an opportunity that flukily landed in his lap.

That summer after finishing fifth he signed Vurnon Anita. Hardly the actions of someone looking to consolidate or progress.

Went from finishing fifth top to finishing fifth bottom. Again, you're spinning it.

I remember that fifth place finish at the time on here. It was more or less universally agreed that it was a complete fluke, now that's not the case?

With what money exactly? He spent over 30m in your second season back from the championship. Then spent a further 6m on Anita. It wasn't till later when he sold Ba and rightfully so for the money offered. Ba had dodgy knees which was public knowledge

We'd just sold Andy Carroll for £35m, Jose Enrique for £6m and Kevin Nolan for £4m.

Wikipedia has our signings at under £24m, btw. Where does the 'over £30m' come from?

Oh right, can I ask questions as to why we spent £350K in the 2013 close season and went on to post a £19m profit then? Or is it just when we make a loss that our transfers are scrutinised.

Across those three seasons we made around £12m in profit. So, aye, that money.

Would be interesting to see what their opinion would be had it been roles reversed with Benitez taking them to 5th and a QF but Pardew 10th and 13th but demanding an improvement to a training facility before walking away.

Surely even you can understand spending 10m on a player then selling for 15m a year later doesn't mean the club have the extra 5m to spend?

Wages and signing on fees are just as important as fees and largely go unannounced. As Ashley likes to pay for signings outright the seasons where you have made a 10m profit just means you could have possibly signed a small signing extra and broke even.

You sold Carrol probably on 15k a week for 35m

Straight away if you sign a replacement on 50k a week. The club is paying 35k a week extra in wages. Add in a fee and that "profit" no longer exists
