I think you're wrong there and it was the opposite. Most Newcastle fans i know thought we where punching massively above our weight when we signed Rafa which is why we wanted to keep him so much as the feeling was whoever is next will be a downgrade.
We where not thinking he came to use because we are big club we where thinking fuck me how did we manage to convince him to come to us.

Imagine getting an unemployed manager to work for you. The same one who leaves and goes to...China.

I’d suggest the astronomical salary on offer played a big part in his decision.

I remember Paul Goddard leaving NUFC as he was homesick for London. He ended up at Derby, which is very near Buckingham Palace.
I remember Glen Roeder,.Robert Lee ..Gavin Peacock...Les Ferdinand..etc..who lived the North East

I remember Ant and Dec, Sting, Jimmy Nail etc etc who prefer living in London. This could rumble on. Fact is though footballers at a high level do prefer bigger cities.

Thought we were talking about footballers.
Not being funny here ..but where is Kevin Ball from?..has a southern accent when I've heard him ...he seems to like it up here

I also pointed out your examples all returned to London.
Ball is from Hastings iirc.

NUFC 18/19 19/20
Attack
Goals 16th 20th
Shots F 14th 17th
Shots OT 16th 18th
Poss % 19th 20th

Defensive
GA 8th 13th
Shots A 9th 17th
Tackles 4th 14th
Intercept 4th 11th

Attack is a little worse, defense is much, much worse.
Few shy of 500 lines.

So Rafa boring/Bruce slightly less boring?

Obviously the salary always plays a big part in the decision but i don't think it was astronomical relatively speaking. he was getting 6 million a year, Unai Emery and Hasenhuttl get the same, Pellegrini gets 7 million, Solskjaer 7.5 million.
I think it would be fair to say that most Newcastle fans felt we had punched above our weight when we brought Rafa in. I think his biggest motivation in signing for us was the desire to be back in England with his family.

Hence he went to China instead of back to his family.

I think you're flogging a dead horse mate.
You can point out that the overwhelming majority of players, pundits, managers, and journalists all consider Rafa a first class manager and its irrelevant to them.
You can show them his CV with all the honours and it will be irrelevant.
You can show them all the facts and figures you want and they will all be irrelevant.

The simple fact is they think he is a poor manager because we think he is a good one.
They will think Bruce is good because we think he isn't. ( I think he has done a decent job and much better than I expected)

If the take over goes through and we sign one of the big name managers that the press are speculating on, even if it's Poch or Alegri then which ever one it is they will argue they are rubbish, or a has been.

To be honest i've seen as many journalists and pundits defending Bruce criticising Newcastle fans for their obsession with Rafa. Newcastle fans on every other issue would hand on every word shearer says but not if he criticies rafa or praises Bruce. Rafa did an average job for Newcastle. Bruce has done slightly better so far after been given Joelinton to have at his disposal instead of Rondon and Perez.

I like the line that he brought the city back together.
Now I would have played for Kevin Keegan such was his charisma. Bobby Robson was a lovely fella and charismatic and loved. Rafa was dull, methodical and dull and methodical. With a side order of dullness and methodology.

Or functionality for a treat on special occasions.
