Therein lies the difference, they may come from Saudi, but I can’t recall Mansour or the Sheffield owner being responsible for sanctioning the gross human rights infringements. Could have been handled so differently but the damage is done now.The difference was that there was a modicum of strategy and thought that went into the Man City takeover. Mansour was presented as the owner, not the UAE government. This enabled them to dodge some of those difficult questions around human rights. For some reason, the Saudis have gone down a different route and opened themselves up for criticism. So much of this could have been avoided. Use a 'liberal' prince whose hands aren't dirty as the frontman and funnel money in through sponsorship. I still don't fully understand why they didn't do this.
