Wayne Rooney could not beat a man with his balk at his feet in the way Waddle, Beardsley, Barnes or Gascoigne could.

The decline in expected standards of modern footballers.
The art of beating a man is almost dead in modern football, very rarely do you see it these days.

I would like to think rather than mercenaries the club can tap into the huge potential of youth talent that gets wasted on its doorstep.

Growing up in the 80’s there was kids lost to the game at junior level who didn’t get the right opportunity, had a bad attitude etc.

Some of them we woukf never hear of but at junior level they could have gone on to become a Gascogne, Waddle or Beardsley.

That latent talent still exists in the streets and fields of the “hotbed”. I’m looking for a La Masia approach. I have an email ready to go on this very subject that I intend to get through to Amanda Staveley via some associates in London.

You are clearly a nostalgic person but living in the past. Poor diet, broken homes, poverty, school pressure, constant screens, xboxes/ps's and other sports undermine your argument. Few kids play out in the street every night anymore like Gascoigne, Rooney, Gerrard etc.. Clubs have a huge hoover and any decent U9 in the NE will have been looked at by all NE clubs.

That is the point. Newcastle should look very carefully about becoming the Dortmund of England with the largest gates in the country.

80,000 gates are attainable if new ownership has the ambition. Obviously, post Covid in 2022.

Na that's only since that fat mess Bruce came in. 52k paid tickets in the champo so it's not a stretch to suggest we could do 75k if we had the capacity and we're back challenging for Europe again

So by this logic SAFC could get 80k under your criteria after all we get over 30k in the third tier (46k in a single game)

Yeah I genuinely think 75k plus is attainable in a few years time if we had the capacity for it or a new stadium. We got 52k in the pub league ffs
It has to be one of the key tenets of the prospective owners business plan presented to the Premier League.

The fervent support of Newcastle supporters did so much for the brand of the Premier League in that first 5 year period of Sky led expansion overseas.

They need that authenticity back to take the image away from Corporate supports like Arsenal and Manchester United.

They real only have Liverpool, right now, as a passionate fan base that they can hold up in comparison to Dortmund in Germany.

That is my point. It’s the most compelling skill for a spectator. It still exists in Latin Football and my contention is it still exists in junior football if cultivated.

This thread has really turned shit recently hasn’t it ?
You’re not wrong there, I’ve got most of your lot on ignore as most of the time it’s like trying to reason with a 5 year old. Tried to put up with EricsGate as it was quite funny how he tries to come across as superior but ends up making a fool of himself, reminds me a lot of how The Fish used to write when he started. Anyway, he’s on ignore now as he’s so predictably boring in what he going to come out with.

Spoils the thread though as I get a lot of ‘ignored content’ being replied to. Don’t mind conversing with mags who want to discuss football, and didn’t mind the odd juvenile piping up, but it becomes a bit tedious when there’s too many.

As small time as I think you lot are and filled with too much bitterness towards all things Newcastle I do admire your numbers and passion. It's what sets the north east apart
