Holiday cancellation refunds etc

Not sure if previously mentioned but just having a look at Eurotunnel site ( we normally go to France in August though not booked yet)

They seem to be saying no refunds for normal tickets ( flexi plus are refundable) as they are running a full service..
HOWEVER when you get to France end you won’t be allowed in unless an essential worker or you’re French and returning home
How the fuck does that work ? Nee point in operating passenger service if passengers not being allowed off at the other end
Easy money that. Charge double to bring people back through no?

I heard a bloke on the radio this morning saying that it might be worth accepting vouchers as the price of a holiday might sky rocket next year or whenever the travel industry gets back on track. The voucher could offset the price increase (or at least some of it). Worth bearing in mind - although I agree that a refund could be preferable in the current climate - I’m in a similar boat - got a holiday in July that’s due to be paid off mid may that I know won’t happen so I stand to lose a deposit if I cancel myself before the deadline, although it’s a lot less to lose then a lot of others who’ve paid in full already.
I wouldn’t fall for that line. You’re then relying on a hell of a lot of factors. Only guaranteed way is to get the cash back in your bank.

Was it that Simon Calder, Mr state the obvious.

Meant to be flying today, still nothing from Jet2. If they don't contact you and you can't get through to the call centre, wtf are you meant to do?

 I know it's f***ing disastrous for them but I'm sure it could have been handled better by the travel companies.
100%. I said earlier that years of trying to avoid treating customers fairly as they know they have you over a barrel is coming back to bite them on the arse. That and the fact none of them have come out and stated their financial position and ability to weather this is also concerning.

We’re all more cynical and more informed of our rights these days so don’t stand for any of their bullshittery.

I hope they all come out of it with jobs in tact (although I doubt it) but the years of being treat like shite by ground staff and companies is coming back to bite them.

A large amount of companies in the UK and around the world are suffering big time but they don’t try and chase market share and in turn run with massive debts. It shouldn’t be allowed.

They're just making it as hard as possible to get a refund. With Jet2 you can accept vouchers or amend a booking online, but you can't click a button to get a refund? Nowt stopping them from doing that, other than making it the difficult option.

The time and effort they're taking to ring customers to offer a refund there must be a large percentage get bored of waiting and take one of the other options.

I think that's exactly it. They are hoping people get anxious and just accept the vouchers.

Haven't read through the thread yet so sorry if this has been covered, but does anyone know what would happen in this situation.

I've booked (Cyprus) for 11 nights in first week of August, say travel ban is lifted and FO say its ok and holiday could go ahead, but Cyprus say anyone entering have to Quarantine for 14 days. Just wondering if travel company would try and back out of a refund.

No TUI flights till June 11th, 16 of us fly to Mexico on the 12th for a wedding 🙄

Have it tried to contact them about it mate? We've got a fortnight in ibiza booked in late July and the balance of two grand needs to be paid off by next week. Tried ringing them yesterday and they basically just cut you off if you ask to speak to anyone...

Yeah Hays Travel rang me on Saturday, it’s all paid for, I can change the holiday but have to pay the difference if it’s dearer, or get money back if it’s cheaper

It wasn’t him mate (however he is actually giving loads of obvious answers on LBC as I type this 😂). Was just a caller. I only personally stand to lose £180 which is still a fair wedge but not compared to most so I’m not going to make issue if it gets problematic .

Flight will be operating , hotel will be open , holiday company can hardly be held responsible for quarantine issues surely ?

Quarantine in the hotel like they did in Tenerife, ie round the pool , jobs a good un.

I mean about I can't quarantine for 14 days if I'm only going for 11.

Guess I'll just have to cross that bridge if I come to it.

called BA yesterday due to a cancelled flight, took me a few attempts to get in the queue but once i was i waited for about 25/30 mins. refund back to card straight away, no questions asked.

Spoken to Hoseasons about a uk cottage holiday booked for 3 weeks time. They are adamant that its in their T&C's that they do not offer a refund.

At first we were happy to swap the break to the same proprty for the same week on 2021, using their price promise - pay no extra. But after being on hold for some time, speaking to the cottage owner, she comes back and says the one we booked is not not going with hoseasons next year, and is not available.

They want us to choose a similar property and transfer to that. Or alternatively, they have included holiday insurance for us, which we didn't pay for. If we cancel through the insurance we'd lose approx 6.5% of what we paid.
Terms and conditions do not over ride the law.

If they cannot provide the service you booked they , I assume, have broken the contract and the law states a refund is due. Tell them they have 7 days or it is going to small claims court.

The voucher isn’t really “offsetting” the cost though is it, no more than having the cash back in your bank and not touching it until you rebook.

You’re better off with the cash so you’re not locked into that provider.
