Holiday cancellation refunds etc

Hoping someone on here can help with a couple of things.

Was meant to be skiing in Andorra back in March. Flying out 19th and returning 23rd. Booked a hotel for 4 nights which was non-cancellable so making an insurance claim for abandonment.

However I’ve been a nugget and only covered myself with insurance from 20th-23rd March.

I only need to claim for the hotel but I booked it all under my name, and the first night was 19th March which isn’t covered by my policy. So is it likely I’ll be able to still claim for the three nights which are covered by my insurance? Or will they just tell me my claim isn’t valid since my policy started after the first night?

Also is it possible to find out what date the FOC advised against all but essential travel to Andorra?

Massive thanks in advance to anyone who can help!
Regarding the FCO advice, it was published on the 18th March

Meant to be flying out tomorrow, still not heard from Jet2. My lass still doesn't want to ring up as it says on the website to wait to be contacted by them if you want a refund.

Legally speaking do they have to contact us before the flight date or can they just not bother and issue a voucher etc without telling us?

Tomorrow? They aren’t flying at all are they?

Spoken to Hoseasons about a uk cottage holiday booked for 3 weeks time. They are adamant that its in their T&C's that they do not offer a refund.

At first we were happy to swap the break to the same proprty for the same week on 2021, using their price promise - pay no extra. But after being on hold for some time, speaking to the cottage owner, she comes back and says the one we booked is not not going with hoseasons next year, and is not available.

They want us to choose a similar property and transfer to that. Or alternatively, they have included holiday insurance for us, which we didn't pay for. If we cancel through the insurance we'd lose approx 6.5% of what we paid.

Ended up pushing our Jet2 holiday for May out to May 21 rather than get the refund.
Did they contact you in the end or you just log in and do it online? Unfortunately we can't just move it till next year as I work away and don't know when I'll be home a year in advance.

She had a voicemail last week and they never called back. No idea how she missed seeing she's never off her phone.
Ah, bugger. I think years of trying to avoid refunds and compensation etc. Has come back and bitten them all in the arse TBF. Woefully under prepared to handle the situation.

Aye I'm thinking we might have got lost in the system a bit, hopefully get through to them today.

I wouldn’t mind doing that with mine if they play fair and keep the price similar. What’s the chances of that?
It was roughly similar. Perhaps a little more. But we also upgraded and added an extra night. The prices seemed to change daily as did when the free child places were available. We will be taking the kids out of school. Bad parents that we are. Half term prices in June were mental.

We booked through an agent. One of the Mams at school is a home travel adviser.

8% plus base.

So on a £1500 holiday, its 33p a day.
Just by chance I was browsing the Jet2 website there and it says under the current regulations this would be classed as extraordinary circumstances so no compensation would be paid. So trying to claim interest on money that you’d already committed to pay out on a holiday anyway is unlikely.

Did you book before 27th February as they changed terms then?

I moved my villa dates to the same 2 weeks in June 2021 with booking.com
Received a voucher less a tenner for airport parking.
Will get a refund from easyjet and try to book again in December.
Missing not going to Italy this year.

It's not compo though.
It interest on money they owe you due them not refunding you within the legal time frame.

As I say, if they're being up front & honest then it's not an issue. It's the lying shites like Ryanair which should be treat with the same contempt they're showing to their customers
