Sunderland had national condemnation when Di Cannio fascist views were being debated. Not on this board though.
Got to be honest mind Di Cannio's views didn't both me either, I don't share them but he gets to think what ever he likes for my money

So can’t you criticise the Saudis and their crimes and still accept you have no choice about the takeover? Is that no possible? Are you saying I’m immoral because that’s how I feel?

It’s just sitting on the fence though. It’s saying, we’d like to welcome the new owners because theyve got mega wealth and we can buy success but we don’t want to openly criticise them because it might scupper the deal .....but we also want to keep our morality by saying there nothing we can do about it. Then there’s some who are celebrating MBS, calling him their king, changing avatars to him......that’s why it’s a lowly thing

I’m not sitting on the fence. I’m describing how I feel.

Assalamu Alaykom

Sorry I couldn't help myself

And you might be in the 99.9% of people who did not even think about Saudi Arabia or their crimes until about a week ago.

nope, I know people who subscribe to the CAAT and amnesty international and have always told me about their actions.
Its never featured on this football forum before because they’ve never been involved in football before. So I’d hope you’d agree the raising of awareness of human right issues is a good thing?

Can’t believe you’re actually trying to compare someone who thought bad things but did nothing, with someone who is actually responsible for ordering multiple atrocities against fellow humans.

Fair play city. I couldn’t agree more. I think the raising of human rights is a very fair and amazing noble thing. I just don’t agree that I should stop supporting the club I have supported for 30 years because of something I have no control over. I, like most people believe I am a decent person who cares about others and tries my best and therefore feels a level of conflict about this.

BUT

I was a fan long before any Saudis, and probs afterwards as well. My club ties me to my city, family and friends and I simply can’t stop supporting that and being part of that as a result of who owns us

Has anyone considered the idea that the Saudi's might not be chucking gazillions of pounds into Newcastle and might just be loaning Staveley and the Reuben brothers the liquid cash they need. For all we know there is a deal in place in which they put up 240 million and staveley buys back the shares at an agreed rate over an agreed time. The PIF do finance other people and offer loans as well purchasing their own stake in companies.
This could be nothing more than a loan from them to Staveley and the Reubens and they may have no involvement in the club.

Time will tell, should the takeover actually happen i will be very interested to hear the mission statement.

I mean this is what’s coming from mags and just shows where they are at this point:

It's the Staveley takover or nothing for me. I am not interested in what any other party have to offer and neither will I put myself through the emotional ringer for yet more weeks and months by checking the internet for "progress" updates of the next farce.

Before this all kicked off a couple of weeks ago my interest in football was zero and in NUFC very little more than that. I was checking in to this place no more than twice a week and the lockdown had made me realise that I was truly ready to walk away from it all for good. The delirium of the last fortnight has pulled me right back in again but if this falls through then I will be even more bitter than I was just over two weeks ago and that will truly be the final straw. I wont watch a game of English football ever again.

It's a PIF takeover or bust and I suspect many will be saying the same. I have nothing to prove as a NUFC supporter....been going since 1984 and have had all of the football-related despair that one person can take. This falls through and thats me over the edge and not coming back.

I salute you sir, like i say
"Sunderland Fans leading the way in human rights since April 2020"
It's kind of catchy i think, you could maybe get those Dell T shirts reprinted and walk round with that on your shirts, a good look i think.
'I'm here posting on these boards because I am a social character, I like to discuss various topics with people of differing opinions like yourself who want to engage with me'

See now I just think that statement contradicts that, you're just being an arse really with snidey comments.

Made this yesterday with my thoughts on the take over put to music.

That one was meant as a bit of fun, banter, the post i made before this one for example was more for genuine discourse

I don’t think anyone is suggesting you stop supporting your team! Not at all......im getting at is how welcoming (or not) the fan base are of the new owners when you look at the evidence of what they’ve done. Then there’s those changing the avatar to the new owners, I guess it could be naivety to who he is I suppose

There's one or two of them displaying some morality.

I wonder if Pete is preparing for his house to be shouted at?
