Home Food Deliveries

Like most people we have several vulnerable family members that can't or shouldn't go out to supermarkets. My wife generally does her mother's shopping as self isolating is not exactly a problem for her as she never goes out.

How do we go about getting her an on line shop when places are not taking new customers or websites are crashing?
Same situation with my mam. This is what we’ve done:

Mam lets us know what she wants from the shops throughout the week to give us a good chance of getting all of the things she wants.

We the do weekly Food Deliveries from one family member. We call before hand so she can open the door and go into a separate room and shut the room door.

We then enter the house and immediately remove jackets hats etc, then we wash hands. We put the food away for her.

Then we get our outer clothes back on, leave the house and ring the doorbell three times to indicate that we are out of the house and she can lock the door.

It’s fairly drastic, but it’s for her own safety.

To help with mental health and the feeling of isolation, we are posting things to her e.g. a weekly maagazine, a jigsaw, pictures, photos and letters from the bairns.

On top of that we make sure she gets at least two calls a day and one of them is a FaceTime chat so she can see us as well as hear us.

Do you clean the food?

Heard someone say that these should be washed in soapy water.

Never done it myself.

Sympathise with the OP’s situation as they have a valid point, hearing the PM tell people to have home deliveries rather than go shopping is impossible, THERE ARE NO SLOTS AVAILABLE
As he would well know if he had to do it himself. Own goal there Boris.

I’m not washing my plums in the sink. Not now not ever.
Our lass and the inevitable Facebook WhatsApp groups are sourcing fresh deliveries and pickups from restaurants and stuff

She made and brought me a beef and mash stew last night and let me tell you it was delicious.

She’s getting a veg pack today and in slightly worrying news availing herself of a milkman.
Look after yersel during all this marra.

 as long as you are getting something out of it marra all is good.

I registered with Asda yesterday and managed to get a delivery slot for Wednesday evening and a Saturday afternoon delivery for my elderly mother. It seemed to me that slots were becoming available periodically. I don’t know if this was due to extra capacity becoming available or people cancelling their orders. It may be worth while logging in and periodically refreshing the page to see if any delivery slots become available. I’ve never done online grocery shopping before so it will be interesting to see what I get!

Complete and utter shambles. We care for our elderly neighbour. She is 87 and has vascular dementia with only one living relative, a nephew in Scotland. We live in a village 5 miles from Sleaford. My wife is over 70 and I reach that landmark in a couple of weeks.
It's bloody impossible to get a delivery slot or a click and collect from any supermarket within a 20 mile radius.

No slots here for Tesco, Asda site throwing an error, Ocado not taking new customers, Co-op don't do deliveries in my area. Looked at a couple of veg box options but neither is taking new customers. Have got a case of wine ordered (arrival date as yet not known).

I've used Sainsburys delivery for years and now can't near a delivery slot. There will be a day of reckoning with several companies after this blows over. Lastminute.com are way out at the top of my personal list for suggesting that I can still choose to travel to London this weekend for a two day break that cost me £500 therefore no refund will be due.

I use Sainsbury’s too and have to say that whilst I’m sympathetic during the current troubled times it has to be said that in my experience they have been poor, no delivery or click and collect slots and as for “we have plenty of stock” I’m sorry but I beg to differ, their shelves have been empty even early on a morning, I went to one of their stores at 2pm (idiot) and it was practically empty of goods, hence I went early morning to try and get a few essentials and it hadn’t been restocked overnight, I understand they can only display what they have, but why say that they have plenty of stock?

Like I said they are either not taking new customers on, or the websites are crashing. We will have to shop for her if necessary, but we were planning on staying in.
Mods can you move to SMB please
I shop at Asda, sainsburys and Tesco and sort of alternate between the three, usually depending on who has the most suitable delivery slots when I order. None of the three have any slots for click and collect let alone delivery, so for the foreseeable, getting an account wouldn't help you anyway mate.
