A victory for freedom of speech.... and sanity

Just because you as a young, white, straight, atheist, middle-class educated man can’t see why “random shite” might become the basis for discrimination, doesn’t mean you’re right.
What the fuck is this shit?

They aren’t “random shite” - some perhaps all of those are protected characteristics under the Equality Act.
Ok, no one is saying discrimination isn't a problem. No one is arguing that a shopkeeper should be able to refuse serving someone goods on the grounds of their race for example

You're debating things that have nothing to do with freedom of speech.

Discrimination and free speech are not the same legal concept.

To the extent that they do overlap, the Equality Act has no application to individuals acting their personal, private capacity.

I’m not saying discrimination and free speech are the same thing. I’ve made that clear multiple times.

I am just asking @Aituk7 why he told @Hep that the list of groups protected from discrimination by legislation has gone “too far”
I assumed @Hep was referring to freedom of speech. Why would a genius like him bring a completely different topic into a thread that has nothing to do with it?

Well then this is your opinion to clarify, do you condemn discrimination against people based on the protected characteristics as set out by the Equality Act and any subsequent amendments to it, such as

Depends on how you define discrimination.

If it is voicing an opinion on such matters then no, I think people should be allowed to voice whatever opinion they wish

If its refusing people service or opportunity based on these grounds then I have a problem. But I believe weve won that argument

Well I’m glad we can agree that denying people service or opportunity on those grounds is usually wrong - though the law does allow for some exceptions we’d agree sensible (eg advertising a personal care role as suitable only for one particular gender) and some exceptions we’d disagree over (eg restricting applicants for an internship based on race).

I doubt we’ll find any common ground over freedom of speech though.

I'll be honest mate I don't know why it was brought up in the first place. It's a complete distraction from the conversation. It has nothing to do with what we were talking about and is a typical argument made of those trying to imply those in favour of freedom of speech are something worse than what they are.

You are cleverer than that fella and don't need to reduce yourself to the levels of @Hep

We should play Brexiteer Bingo instead. You can keep the face like a smacked arse, the 'school of hard knocks' and the shitty petitions, but add in 'drinks Fosters', 'has an England flag from Sports Direct' and 'wears badly fitting polo shirts' and you'd be onto a full-house within minutes, and that's just on here.
What is the correct fit for a polo shirt?

If you cannot see how they are linked you are more naive than I thought.

What if I posted all over social media that I think women shouldn't be allowed to work whilst they are pregnant. Then the next day, I interview a woman who is pregnant for a job, with a good chance that she may have seen my views.

This is a classic example of indirect discrimination and how posting shit that is discriminatory is bad for society. I get hardly any applications for the IT roles from Women. I think that is because society conditions women's away from certain industries. I know there will be those saying that's just the way it is and it's fine, but it's not. I'm losing the abilities from half the population.

I can't imagine why

You're free to think what you want, it's wrong but that doesn't seem to bother you.

It's quite clear that the abuse given to Caroline Flack played a part in her death. A timely but sad example.

Anyway, you've swerved the question again, is it ok for me to post opinions that would indirectly discriminate?
