apple mac desktop

Complete and total utter bollocks. Made in China like most things.

The innards of them are identical to Windows PC innards. QC'd in the same Intel motherboard factory for example.

I'm in that industry by the way (as you know) and have far more knowledge of it than most knackers who like Apple stuff over PC.

Note : I have an iPhone by the way. Built by Foxconn in China.
I wasn't saying that they're different components. I've seen some of the US made junk over here. I was referring to the build QC

Over the years I’ve had iPhones 1, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8, a MacBook Air, a MacBook Pro, AirPods, AirPods Pro, Apple TV, an Apple Watch and a first-gen iPad.

Very rarely have they given me the problems my android using or PC using friends have had.

I won’t get another iPhone until they bring back Touch ID, unless my 8 dies.
I wasn't talking about play toys man. Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeee lad!

Macs are inherently better QC’d than PCs overall. It’s true that well made PCs work just as well if not better. The problem lies in the fact that anyone can build aPC and there really is some rubbish out there.

I chose to use an iMac because I like it. Since Ive had mine,(2012) the Mrs has gone through 8 Dells.

I bought an Dell laptop (i3 chip) for my daughter 6 years ago in a sale.

It cost £170 which, even though its a reasonably low spec is spectacularly cheap.

It's significantly quicker than my 3 year old HP which I have to say is the worst £500 I've ever spent.

You can shove any i device where the son doesn't shine. Over priced software, hardware, basically elitist nonsense

Maybe time to find another industry that you’re more suited too then Marra?

;)

anyone else have problems in getting their Apple Mac to connect to the home hub
other devices connect to the router straight away but mac can sometimes take 1/2 hour to connect
Apple advice on line is no good as it just seems to blame the route or ISP but as other devices connect straight away then it's not the router

IOS up to date etc
Have you tried Apple chat? They’re usually excellent.

What version of the home hub is it? I’ve never noticed an issue.

How far away is the router? Try something simple first like forgetting the network and connecting again. Then the changing the wireless channels on the router and keep testing it. Could just be congestion/distance.

We just got a Home Hub 6 and it connected to our iMacs no bother. One running OS Sierra and an older one still running El Capitan.

My first Mac was a new 1993 IIsi, then various Quadras, G3 and G4 desktops and now an iMac, and I've never had any real bother with one. Only real problem one was a Mac clone from around 1997 (I forget the make), which was absolutely rubbish. I still use my 1999 G3 Powerbook and it's still going strong...if a little slow.
Anything around 2012 onwards should be able to run Catalina now. It seems to do a decent enough job on MacBooks.

She’s gone through three in the last year. Screens failing, CPU issues, ports not working, all sorts. Her IT staff keep a whole bunch of backup machines ready to replace broken ones. (About 700 users.)

I say the problem is her. Or they are giving her the old shit since she keeps breaking stuff.

I manage an estate of 4000 plus dell laptops and get no were near that type of issue Monthly. Let alone a single user.

How old and what brand is the router ? I have seen issues before with some devices not liking “default” router settings esp for WiFi.

so it does work it just takes a long time to join? Have you tried removing the wifi profile for that network?
settings->network-> select wifi->advanced-> find your wifi name then hit -. Go to join it back upto the wifi like you did originally.

Do you have another wifi you could test it on? I know it's not the most portable thing in the world, so maybe a mobile hotspot or mobile broadband (mifi) device?

I have a PC that is 8 years old and runs as smooth as butter still. If you're comparing Mac to the cheapo bulk laptops that workplaces use, then of course there's going to be a vast difference in performance and longevity.

They’re a seismic data processing company that uses high end PCs

I admit, however that every bit of tech she touches breaks without any good reason.
