I wouldnt take notice of any of the numbers to be honest. There isn't a chance we are getting the true picture from China and it sounds like its spreads very easily so estimating is pretty pointless.

Seems like a reasonable precaution. I’d want to keep the details of everyone coming through UK customs who was symptomatic.

They’re separate measures. If you’re using a ratio of deaths to survivors you omit those who still have the disease but are likely to make a recovery, who will make up the bulk of all diagnosed with it.

The crude rate is just a simple deaths / cases * 100

I'm not sure at all where that worldometer is getting its data from, but everything I have seen recently suggests that the mortality rate is between 2 and 3%, the problem being that earlier ratios cited the R0 as 2.5 with people were citing 60-90 of populations infected, putting the fatality rate at anywhere between 1.2% and 1.8% (averaging out other factors); which is huge in epidemic standards.

My Colleagues private school just banned all students from returning if they are flying from the far or near east.

'Common' flu is usually fatal to the elderly. Novel flu viruses such as this are atypically fatal to healthy young adults 20-40 in the prime of their lives.

Have you actually done any research into what happens to people with this new novel coronavirus compared to regular influenza? I mean taken time to read papers from online medial journals or what respected online doctors have to say? Fair enough if dont wish to or just cant be bothered, just interested in knowing what you are basing your evident lack of concern on.

I was thinking more along the lines of shit loads of Chinese smoke so is that why the deaths are there.
