Wearmouth Bridge Death Yesterday.

No I get your point. To be fair a shop assistant probably wouldn't think twice about it. That's what I was meaning.
You can't really imagine what's going through the purchaser's head though

That's got nowt to do with what MT was on about though. He's on about the very nature of it, simply strolling in to get your bait and also equipment to take your own life.

There are times they should.

Watched two men, go into the pound shop. Clearly off their tits. Bought 3 cans of lighter fuel each.

No one smokes that much do they?

This happened to my Nephew started on-line gambling ,stole from his employers to try and recoup what he lost ,lost more in the casino what he stole and was on the verge of Suicide but owed up got arrested ended up in Crown court lost his job his dignity , hes turned a corner now still goes to GA so easy to happen to anyone
Good to hear mate.

Sure the Samaritan's number is on the railings on metal plates too.
Not taking a pop mate before i go on but its great to have the Samaratins number to call on the Bridge, I'm all for that and the work they and other emergency service do ,including the notes left to try and deter people in dark places BUT, where is the telephone to call them? Thats not having a go, just I cant recall any phone boxes close to the bridge, bearing in mind not everyone has a mobile. Should there be a telephone of some sort on or near the bridge for these poor people to use?

That’s a very very good point.

Correct. It’s really shameful to a lot of people to be skint and look a failure. Every fucker seems to have an amazing life all the time and be going to amazing places. People beat themselves up and have constant reminders on social media that they’re falling behind their mates. Probably all miserable and debted up to the eyeballs as well. It’s refreshing when I hear people saying they’re skint these days.

Mate reading your post brings a tear to my eye as you are really not far from the real truth there.

Modern society is so messed up.
That’s a very very good point.
Indeed. We provide them on motorway hard shoulders/layby's.why not here?

It’s all about what you’re willing to part with that is truly important to you. Once you’ve given everything away that is in your control then it becomes a problem. When what is important to your way of life is in someone else’s hands then you’re fucked.

not a bad idea that council should put phones up at either end of the bridge with samaritans number on, they might not be able to talk with family and friends about what their struggling with but if they can talk to a stranger and get it off their chest could help loads, should be a petition or summit to the council to get it done could save lives

The increase in suicide rate and self harm in younger people is scary.
Middle aged men are still the highest rate, largely because they're so bad at asking for help. All the more reason to call or send that text asking how someone doing or just letting someone know you're there for them.

I think it’s unfair to blame the internet and modern day society. The problems we class as modern have always been there regarding finances/keeping up with the joneses/gambling /bullying and drink/drugs. Every era was modern at some point. You could even go as far to say that nowadays there is more awareness and online help out there. More warnings to the dangers of all the above, more people to turn too.
To me personally I think love or lack of is the main killer, all of the above can contribute but as long as you have love in your life you can get through most things. And I’m sure in most cases victims will feel rightly or wrongly they have no one to turn too.
Obviously you have people mentally unwell and will try and kill themselves at the first opportunity no matter how much help they receive which unfortunately not much can be done but lock them up.
That idea of a phone instead of a phone number is a cracker mind.
Self awareness is really the only therapy that will work early doors, like all the problems mentioned burying your head in the sand won’t make them go away. Being proactive in your mental health is very important and as important as physical health. And there are many ways to do this.
I wonder how many people have turned things around just by posting or even reading posts on the depression thread on this forum, one of the many class things about this forum may I add. Or Reading the foggy and Coxhoe Dave(to name a couple) threads and drawing strength from them and realising that being skint or breaking up with a lass/lad is not the end of the world, just a bump in the road.
Telling the people who mean the world to you that you love them regularly is always a great starting point for both involved.

Excellent idea that. I wonder how much it would cost to have one on either side.

Not a great deal I would have thought...theres bound to be a telecoms cable running across the Wearmouth bridge ,Alexander the the new bridge also..I know there is across the A19 one. I'll have a word with a couple of lads i know who will have the answers but I cannot see how money from any government body would come into it in order to save lives
