F1 2020

I think that’s fair, I do also think though that going from the worst car on the grid to being expected to win titles or at least races is an almighty leap, remains to be seen who else may appear out of the junior formulas in the next couple of seasons. I felt at the time that Redbull were hasty in letting Sainz go.
sainz may have finally found a home that fits his talents, same with mclaren having found two drivers that 'fit' their system too.

after latifi, the most obvious name to make the jump has been Nyck de Vries. i don't know if he's part of any "programs" but see he's racing the merc in formula e currently. Mazepin was getting linked to seats the middle of last year, but not sure if that was due to russian money behind him rather than talent (half decent apparently). Hubert was going to be the next big thing for renault until he's sad accident at spa.

Biggest name with probably a make or break season ahead is Mick S, the surname has got him into the ferrari "program" and if he had a good year this year then 2021 might see him in a ferrari customer seat, maybes. the red bull converyor belt seems a bit sparse at the mo, espcially after the fall of the next big thing that was dan ticktum... being poached to williams test driver isnt what it used to be. i suppose with max & alex being so young they have a lot of time for marko to unearth the next big thing.
If he nails it again, I think people will start to look at him seriousy.
I think there's something about him. Mind, the midfield is mega talented at the moment - Lando & Sainz are great and could easily drop into a top team imo. I also think Riccardo will have the measure of Ocon, but he's a decent driver too - and you've got people like Perez who's somewhat the forgotten man, but really delivers race on race.

Its seems like its only Haas who has a joke lineup.
pretty sure perez has the longest exisitng contract of anyone on the grid currently? mind, being friends with carlos slim probably helps. doubt that it will make much difference, but apparently stroll (snr) is about to invest heavy in aston martin (the road car side) which may shape the future of the f1 team. but i'm not a fan of stroll jnr.

i wonder how much haas would love to get a yank into one of those seats? 12 months ago they seemed to have the world at their feet but after last season the best they could do was hang onto Grosjean & suck my balls k-mag (i do think he's good for f1 though as a personailty).

for some reason ocon reminds me of grosjean, can't imagine riccardo will have much to worry about from him... unless he has him racing closely as perez will confirm that ocon seems to lack spacial awareness...

Sort of, he's still actually managed by Mercedes F1 though. And anyway, contracts in F1 might as well be written in smoke.

Grosjean is only making up the numbers now.

I think Magnussen would be an interesting proposition in, say, a Renault or McLaren.

The Haas was woeful last season

Carlos Sainz liking a bit of Sade in his pit radio messages was canny. Diamond Life is a cracking album. Seb and Charles squabbling over Formula Radio to the point that Crofty was getting genuinely annoyed was fun as well.

I hope we get a few more little oddities like that this season.

For a season where after a few races it was clear who would be champion, it was quite enjoyable.

Honourable mention for Lando as well.

This years German GP was voted the race of the decade by f1 fans...

somewhat ironically, the hockenheim owners are meant to be considering close it as a race venue and turning it into a concert & entertainment venue (although it could have been click bait bullshit).

I'd imagine having a venue like that, which is basically geared to holding a massively lucrative F1 event, must be a pretty expensive overhead.

Didn't agree with it as the race of the decade, that accolade goes to Canada 2011, but it was a classic.

It would be a shame to lose Hockenheim from the calendar as it does tend to produce good races.
