Logan Pye

The club has to give permission to the buying club to even speak to the parents. Without that permission then Man U can’t do anything at all. People seem to forget this.
Well that's valid but there's nothing to stop the kid just packing it in and then approaching the interested club themselves i'm guessing.

Hypotheticaly speaking. If the kid learnt of this interest could he just not turn up at the academy, effectively downing tools?

I don’t think so or at least not do that and sign for another academy.

Nope. Academy players are forbidden from approaching another academy from another club.

Three years ago, our academy was one of the 20 Premier League clubs. The 15/16 year olds who were taken on in 2016 and 2017 were taken on as future premier league players, with a view to loaning them out to L1 and championship clubs for a bit of experience. Fast forward 3-4 years and where are those potential premier league players that should be ripping it up for us in L1 by now? Hulme - L1 standard but no better. Mumba/Kipkioma - not exactly ripping it up and featuring in a woeful U23 side. Embleton - nowhere near L1 standard.

Whilst Reid is in charge now, I would question who has been running, scouting, signing and coaching these kids from 2016 onwards, because collectively they have utterly ruined the academy.
In that time we've also produced Maja and Asoro, I think you're being harsh on your assessment of Embleton. I'm in no way defending what's happening now but the academy has produced those two plus Hume who are good enough to have been in a league one side. 3 isn't bad especially when 2 are now playing in top European leagues (and I know not as recent but Gooch and Honeyman have made a significant number of appearances). I don't see much for the next couple of years which is a big concern.

SAFC Sunderland are set to lose another of their brightest academy prospects, with 16 year old England youth international Logan Pye leaving the Academy of Light to join up with Manchester United. Sunderland are set to lose another promising youngster from the Academy, with reports suggesting that Logan Pye will join Manchester United. The...

I didn’t either until I had a look into it when everyone was saying there’s nothing the club can do. There is. Whether they should is an entirely different argument.
And that is in reality the crux of the matter. If a 15/16 year old is good enough that they may make it then generally at that age i would have thought that they'd be good enough to play for the under 18's at least, possibly even the U23's.

Sunderland AFC.

Note that Sunderland AFC is a business, Stewart Donald is a human being.
Obviously.

He does.

The spectacular and sudden failure of the academy that produced 2 of the England side that got to the WC semi final is nothing to do with Donald and co and is merely coincidence
Don't know the ins and outs, but to be fair the academy that Donald and co inherited doesn't seem to have produced any young talent capable of playing in the 3rd division.

I don't. He's 20 and has been with SAFC for a good few years. He was signed as top flight potential. In 2017, he was playing for the England U20s at the age of 18, having already represented the U17, U18 and U19. FYI, the other scorer in the U20's semi final in June 2017 was Harvey Barnes, currently ripping up premier league defenders with Leicester. He's a little bit older, but at 20, he was playing in the Championship regularly for Barnsley on loan, before playing for WBA on loan the following season.

Can you honestly say I'm not being harsh when one is a regular for the 3rd placed club in England and the other cant even get a game for a mid-table 3rd tier side?
