Don’t know Gipp but it must be worth it or these boys would have binned it.

In the ‘now’ and probably the short term it won’t be classed as worth it as people playing in the upper ages of the academy are not likely to get into our first team in L1 never mind championship should we go up. This is mostly down to the relegations and been in L1.

The academy has been kept on for the potential long term benefits. Look at the younger age groups at the academy, all doing well. If SD just wanted to asset strip the academy would have been an obvious place to save a shit load of money but they have kept it running and fund it as a cat 1 as he knows it’s best for the club in the long term!

I know SD has said there's nothing he can do and I know that in theory that's correct but....didnt both Leicester and Southampton rebuild via their academies while in League One?

What were they doing that prevented the big fish stealing all of their players?

If and when we lose the cat 1 status, I would shut it down like Brentford did. There is genuinely no reason to keep it going in it’s current state.

Saying that, we don’t have the people in charge with brains like Brentford.

Hope they stick in with their education

Dont concern yourself. Sure they’ll manage just fine. They’re not idiots.
That said, think you need something better to concentrate on than your obsession with slagging off every academy kid... 🤷🏻‍♀️
and we are only losing them because we are in league 1. i could be wrong but i'm sure that if we were still in the premier league, we would be protected from losing kids before they are eligible for a professional contract. we could then lose them at this point but the compensation would be much higher

No, Rules are the same regardless of what league were in. We’re Cat1.

We might aswell just wrap the academy in. Not worth putting the money in short term when we are outside of the top flight. If we produce anyone that’s good they’re just leaving to crack on at a better club.

Would be interested in hearing what role Donald/Reid are playing in keeping these lads mind. Also would like to know what effort they’re making to keep the staff when we lost 2 staff members to other clubs before Christmas.

The academy can still produce players for the first team while losing its best to the elite. There would be players at the academy the elite aren't interested in who can become L1/championship quality

Is there any truth then that players are being offered around and also that parents are being asked to cover fuel costs, food and kit? I'm sure if read comments along those lines on this forum.

Three years ago, our academy was one of the 20 Premier League clubs. The 15/16 year olds who were taken on in 2016 and 2017 were taken on as future premier league players, with a view to loaning them out to L1 and championship clubs for a bit of experience. Fast forward 3-4 years and where are those potential premier league players that should be ripping it up for us in L1 by now? Hulme - L1 standard but no better. Mumba/Kipkioma - not exactly ripping it up and featuring in a woeful U23 side. Embleton - nowhere near L1 standard.

Whilst Reid is in charge now, I would question who has been running, scouting, signing and coaching these kids from 2016 onwards, because collectively they have utterly ruined the academy.
