Yup but at the same time we are still a cat 1 academy losing players to another cat 1 academy.

and we are only losing them because we are in league 1. i could be wrong but i'm sure that if we were still in the premier league, we would be protected from losing kids before they are eligible for a professional contract. we could then lose them at this point but the compensation would be much higher

Is there any truth to youth players being touted by the club as chris Wetherspoon suggests? I'm sure one of of the players parents who went last year (Stephenson?) posted on here a few times.

Cant fully remember what they were saying but pretty sure the inference was the club was doing absolutely nothing to try and persuade them to stay. Could be wrong on that like.

have a proper coaching and management team in place.

We’ve always been miles away from the big clubs but kids stayed when the academy was functioning properly

no it isn’t - players have An easier route to first team football here. Look at how many kids the likes of Leeds and Southampton blooded in in this league.

it’s because we’re ran like a clown car
And what happened to Southampton? They lost them too, alright a few went into the first team, but I bet they lost youth players when they went to down. They only blooded of note ox Chamberlain, who was a wonderkid. I'd be surprised if we had any of them.

But our u16s and u23s are both bottom of their table with a point between them. It doesn't look good at all.

To be honest I have no idea what they’re doing at that level. Can’t see why they offered contracts to the likes of Bainbridge, Sammut, Collins, Hunter (on loan to South Shields) too when we are so bad. They’ve all came from other sides after being released and combined we’ve probably spent afew hundred thousand pound on wages, food, housing etc for these lads when they’re offering nothing to our current set up and we’re so bad. Who’s scouting these lads to come in at 23 level? Surely the point was to add players to make us competitive to support the younger players development but they’ve added players that were worse then we had imo. It doesn’t help anyone and it looks like a complete shit cycle.

Not sure what Dickman is doing as gaffer anarl. We are cat 1 but look mediocre (coaching wise when you see them in game) and we’re adding mediocre players to assist in the development of players that we have/had hope for.

I'm seriously worried about posters mental health on here, how many times do they have to be told THERE IS FUCK ALL THE CLUB CAN DO ABOUT PLAYERS UNDER 16 YEARS OLD MOVING TO OTHER CLUBS

f***ing hell man

Call this mental but they could invest in the academy and I don’t know, maybe attempt to persuade them to stay with some sort of long term vision?

Imagine that, some sort of professionalism at the club 😂😂

Not looking good is it, just hopefully a bit more care and investment can be put in, in the very near future.

Problem is, when Liverpool and Man U come along, the kids get starstruck and the parents see £ signs. Trying to convince them their chances would be better staying put would be like talking to a wall.

Nothing other than hearsay but that could also be the club wanted to get rid of one or two. 1 player who we did ‘lose’ last season was wanted rid of so was offered about to at least get the compensation instead of just releasing or pay him not to turn in. So there is 1 example of it but a one that is understandable if you know the details. That bell end chris though would turn this into full on negativity towards the club/ owners! Thinks he f***ing knows

Not a chance all are been touted out as the compensation levels are f***ing shite. SD has talked about this on many occasions and agrees its shite as he admits there is not much they can do. Even in the prem we used to lose out on these kids/ youth players for the standard compensation. Can’t think of any that have gone onto make an impact.
How much does it cost to run though, incl. salaries etc. I can't imagine the compensation will be much.

I think he meant it costs 3m a year to run the academy. I am sure that’s the figure SD has said previously. The compensation goes nowhere near been worth it in situations like this. You wouldn’t set an academy up with the purpose of getting compensation figures. That’s just the rules.

Tbf, its Man Utd, we'd have no chance even if we were in the premier league.

Can't argue with the fact the club can't make them stay.

Can't say I'm convinced there's much incentive for them to stay either mind. Not talking about money or coaching or even the level he'll be at. What's the lad got to look forward to if he stays? At least another three year stuck in our shite underage teams losing every week?

There's no structure in place to see young players go out on loan. No real strategy to integrate the better young players in the first team. Nothing with regards to giving them the best chance to make a career. They either get lucky and get a chance in the first team, or stick around too long doing nowt and drop through the leagues like a stone.

It's an issue that pre-dates Donald mind, but to say 'we can't make them stay' is simplifying a deeper problem.
