no it isn’t - players have An easier route to first team football here. Look at how many kids the likes of Leeds and Southampton blooded in in this league.

Southampton blooded Walcott for about 6 months and then had to sell and weren't even in this league. Bale was blooded in the league above and was already gone. Surman and Dyer hung around a bit and then were sold at lesgue one level.

Southampton had to sell almost everyone, which give them a few quid to reinvest in the likes of Lambert to get then out of the league.

All those players they sold were under professional contracts at the time. I'm also not sure if they were subject to the same rules/problems at the time but the players you are referring to weren't 14 and 15 year olds.

A pretty shit comparison all being told.

Well what are we meant to do ? The lad is too young to be offered a contract. He is free to move wherever he wants.

Really fail to see what the Don and Mevthen have done wrong and I was probably the original person calling for Shorts head before you call me a happy clapper.
You can't talk sense on here, it's another excuse to bash the club, even though there's nowt they can do about it

We might aswell just wrap the academy in. Not worth putting the money in short term when we are outside of the top flight. If we produce anyone that’s good they’re just leaving to crack on at a better club.

Would be interested in hearing what role Donald/Reid are playing in keeping these lads mind. Also would like to know what effort they’re making to keep the staff when we lost 2 staff members to other clubs before Christmas.

I offer you league one or higher who do you pick

As I said in my post above can’t blame the lads for going and I hope they all go on to shine but at the same time we are a cat 1 academy side that seemingly can’t relate talent or staff.

Good luck to the lad.

You can't really blame him, but it does make you question the point of our academy now if all of our talent are pissing off elsewhere.
I agree but the bitter answer is that we get 3m a year for Cat1 status and compensation for every lad that moves. That’s the answer.

Agree with what your saying... but we’ve completely sold out on our youth his careers going to be better at the mancs then in cleadon

Someone will be along in a minute to tell us how the spectacular and sudden failure of the academy that produced 2 of the England side that got to the WC semi final is nothing to do with Donald and co and is merely coincidence

Has it really been a success for the life of it?
How much debt did we end up in by not bringing a lot more through when the AOL is/was so raved about.

For me it always seemed to be more a quantity than quality set up.

Probably should’ve had a team of world beaters now all the 6 year old starlets we’ve had.
