Wearmouth Bridge Death Yesterday.

I came over the bridge about 7am yesterday and there was a police van hurtling down North Bridge Street whilst I was going to turn right onto Dame Dot. Saw another one as I was driving along Dame Dot and then saw a car with its Lifeboat sign on when I got to the Queen Vic. Could guess what was going on but was hoping for a better outcome. :(

Theres signs on bridges down here, samaritans, number to ring if you need a chat etc,any on the town bridge?

Modern day pressures, debt, gambling, drugs, and social media all playing a part. I know of a lad who recently passed who was up to his eyes in debt thro gambling. Needs to be curbed.
Correct. It’s really shameful to a lot of people to be skint and look a failure. Every fucker seems to have an amazing life all the time and be going to amazing places. People beat themselves up and have constant reminders on social media that they’re falling behind their mates. Probably all miserable and debted up to the eyeballs as well. It’s refreshing when I hear people saying they’re skint these days.

I’d love to ban gambling or at least limit the amount each person can spend, but realise it impossible to restrict this way.
I’d assume personal debt plays a major part in suicide rates as you state.
Not sure what the answer is, but the way gambling is now surely has to change.

It’s too easy. It’s telling you on the radio, on tv, internet. Open an app and bet within 1 minute, bet live. At least restrict it to physically handing over money in betting shops. Ban advertising like we have tabs. People are being encouraged to bet all the time and it’s too easy.

Agree with this entirely marra. Got rid of Facebook and Instagram near enough a year ago, constantly comparing yourself to others man.

Champagne lifestyle on brown ale wages, all fake and ticked up to bits but looks great...

A good start would be banning the like button across all social media. Sounds like fuck all but people massively rely on it for constant reassurance. Take it away from everyone and there’s no competition anymore. Also don’t let people display how many followers they’ve got.

The squeeze on peoples money these days is mental as well. Shopping is very expensive, fuel, clothes, gas and electric is etc. You’re constantly being squeezed for more and more money but are still trying to act like everything is ok and we’re all minted. We live in a world of fakery because none of us want to look a failure.

Aweful to think someone is that desperate that there is no other alternative.
Loved ones left behind may not even be aware of the persons state of mind and unable to help.

One of the hardest things anyone can go through having seen the aftermath of something like this. (not directly I might add)
At least terminal illness etc you have some sort of closure, you can never have it when you have no idea why.
