Gym nuggets

Anyone encountered any absolute bellends in their gyms?

The other day, two absolute waterbags were loudly complaining about January gym goers. Fair enough, it's frustrating when a gym is packed but it's one of those things. They then went on to loudly chastise two older blokes who came in.

"Wheez these two divs just walked in like?!"

Only reason I bit my tongue was I couldn't be chewed with an argument and they were clearly fixing for a fight.

For me, the gym is a place for everyone. Nobody has the right to feel as if they own the place.

100%, people trying to better themselves shouldn’t be mocked, I’ve seen it happen with morbidly obese people being mocked and I haven’t bit my tongue, it’s bang out of order.

Same something similar on Thursday when running. A women who was a big lass was plodding along the sea front. A van went past and some bloke shouted " go on ya fat fuck".

Just no need for it. Some people are just arseholes.

That is deplorable. My favourite thing about my running club, doesnt matter whether you’re running 6 minute miles or 12 minute miles, the support is brilliant.

Young'uns spending most of their time f***ing about with phones.

Get in....train.....and fuck off. Don't spend half the time browsing hogging equipment etc.
TBF a lot of strength training programmes have 2 or 3 minutes tests between sets. I’m pretty sure I look like I’m doing this, but if you were to actually stand behind me you’d only see the Jefit countdown (unless we have a midweek game then I’ll maybe have LiveScore or the match thread on while I wait for my rest buzzer).

My gym always feels quite inclusive (it is a David Lloyd’s I suppose) but there’s one guy that annoys me. He’s actually probably not a bellend because he does seem quite popular in the gym. His family own the local “famous” ice cream parlour and he walks around with an air of arrogance about him. He’s a stereotypical “always skips a leg day” bodybuilder type and I’ve only ever seen him do bench press, bicep curls, tricep dips or bent over rows (although one night he was doing 70kg deadlifts). He also has a little harem who watch him work out, including the receptionist with the dodgy tache.

People like this forget that they had to start somewhere. I'm a skinny weedy lad with a beer belly and I want to start weight training but it is daunting enough going in and lifting tiny little weights without bellends passing judgement.

My advice would be plug some earphones in and fuck every single person that isn't you.

It annoys me because they somehow have managed to develop a superiority complex when in the 25+ mins I was working my chest, they'd done three sets of dumbbell curls and a few situps. Not that that should matter, but it's not even as if they were in any way hindered by the new folk starting.

Personally I always give little bits of advice when I see someone struggling.

I take the bairn to swimming lessons at Hetton and their gym is small and limited but I think I will start there because whenever I've looked in the weights area has been quiet. I'm a complete novice so it will do me for now and hopefully I can build some confidence.

You'll get a discount off the gym if the youngun gets lessons mate. I take mine there and our lass got me a years everyone active membership at a great price.

The gym I go to is an independent one. People of all shapes, sizes and ages goes and nobody passes comment on each other. It's really friendly and supportive. Eg: there was a clean and press in circuits the other night and you could pick bars from 5kg to 20kg on and nobody batted an eyelid as to who picked up what bar on that station. It's in Birtley so a bit far away but you'll probably be able to find somewhere similar around your way.

Choice is limited for me because I don't drive. I was at my fittest I've ever been about 10 years ago when I used to go boxing and circuit training was part of the class. Wish I could go back but shifts at work and the kids don't work around it.

Aww that's a shame like, but work and the bairns come first!

Where was that??

I go to the 24Hr one at Grindon Mill mate. Seen one of the two a few times in the year I've been going, and he seemed more to be agreeing to just go along with the idiot, but the other one, the more mouthy, I didn't recognise.

Looks like a canny gym that as well. Typically it opened a few month after I moved from SR4.

Driving past the other day, I noticed a sign that said women go upstairs and blokes downstairs. I like a mixed gym

There's two separate bits for each but then one big mixed room out the back. Tbf that's mainly an extension of the mens. Some of the creeps I've seen in there put me off and they presumably aren't interested in bucking me!

Does the job. Busy as fuck atm which is frustrating at times as its quite a small gym but as I said, it's January and it's to be expected

24 hour though isn't it? I work shifts and I finish late shift at 1 am so would have been useful.
