Plane Etiquette

This is hilarious! You can recline your seat whenever you want! Obviously put it up for meal service, but you can’t moan any other time. Can’t stand part time travellers. Bane of my life.
And their little revenge tactics!

Can't remember a long haul economy or premium economy flight where the crew haven't proactively told people to put their seat up for meal time.

Please turn off your electronic devices during take-off. That one gets roundly ignored. But still, if someone’s addiction to social media is more important than their safety and the safety of others then it’s ok.
Likewise the safety briefing. It is actually done for the good of your health.

Did our first long haul flight for 13 years on Wednesday. Was dreading it but it was actually ok and thankfully our kids behaved.

However I found it incredibly annoying and rude that the man in front reclined his chair for about 10 hours 45 mins of the 11 hour journey. Thus leaving me feeling claustraphobic and rather pee'd off. His partner did the same also in the seat next to him. And they were necking on too!! 🤬 Ergh!

Spoke to an air hostess and she said there was nothing we could do. I ended up swopping seats with kids but still not great.

Have you encountered passengers who have done the same, or other annoying acts on a plane, and did you do anything about it?

They had better not be sitting in front of us on the way home!!!
Yea mate, annoys me but I' m six foot three.
I never recline,on the rare occasion I do I ask the people behind first.

Everywhere is long haul from Australia so I keep off the A380 ,shit plane.Travel on the A 350 ( 900) I think it is.The latest Airbus long haul plane. That is a beauty.

Now we are old it tends to be cattle class up to Asia for the short haul from Australia, then premium economy for the 14 hr Asia to London leg

Now air fares are cheap and code share is in, flights are always chocka.

Good in the 1980's.Flights cost a fortune and flew half full.First thing you did was look for the 4 empty seats ,middle row of a jumbo.Soon as the plane took off and fasten seat belts went off,get them and lie down on them.

I'm not too keen on them dreamliners either, but throw passengers on and throw them off is the price you pay for cheap fares ( sigh ).

Totally acceptable and lots of explanations.

10am flight...probably at airport at 7am, left house at 6am, up at 430am..probably late to bed as was packing/sorting. As soon as fasten seats belt signs goes out, tell behind I am reclining but give me a tap around meal time and have a snooze.

If going to Asia (+8) then I would want to sleep around 2pm onwards so I am straight into new time zone. In fact I will often go to bed late the night before so I know I will sleep on the flight.

The Dubai flight takes a weekend millionaire and raises it! I am talking full families in obvious full fake designer outfits.

Dread to think what that is like, the Dubai flight from - I presume - Newcastle. I get the picture though.

Don’t fly from Newcastle that much, few times a year for visits, that’s it. The BA Lounge can be okay, quiet, but last time I was in there were four or five lasses in there - not bad looking but would have been better looking without the fake lips and Botox - who spent their whole time calling their mates, face timing, shouting out loud. They were no spring chickens either - you’d think they would have a bit more sense. Zero self awareness.

I'm 6'4 and my spend flights with my knees jammed up against the seat in front of me before anyone even puts their seat back. Whilst its not the end of the world its a right chuff on if they do, as I can't put the tray down, let alone move.

I was on a flight to Hawaii a few years back, and flew first class. That was much better. There's no reason I'm bringing this up at all, just putting it out there.

great thread this

the inclusion of destinations is absolutely necessary and not showing off at all
Aye, I had a similar experience on the way to Dubai for a 3 week chill out, bloke in front reclined and knocked my Rolex off the tray. I was fuming. I would have stood up but I could not for 2 reasons. Firstly I’m 6 foot 9, and the second I had all my disposable income in my pockets making it impossible to move.

Where was your disposable income? In the hold? Too much for hand luggage? It’s a pain.

When I went on my world tour some flights were great and some not so. The one out of honk Kong was particularly bad when the prick reclined for 14hrs. San Fransisco, Mississippi, Prague, Sydney, Doha and Reykjavik were all bad too with reclining wankers.

We went to Florida, wife and two daughters had seats together and I was (meant to be) across the isle. Chinese bloke sat in my seat when we boarded, I said I think that’s my seat and he said he wanted to sit next to his girlfriend, his seat was 3 rows back. Never happened before on a plane (plenty of times on a train), I said okay, explained to hostess why I wasn’t sat in my seat, got a glass of bubbly as a reward for being a good egg. Got daggers off the Mrs for not sitting near her but meant I didn’t get prodded constantly to ask what i was watching 👍
