Plane Etiquette

Plane etiquette allows someone to recline their seat. There are options available to you if you have specific needs.

You expecting some random to facilitate your personality hangup is rude.

Coach is fine but if someone moves their seat back a couple of inches your claustrophobia kicks in?

I can understand it being less than ideal, but flying is less than ideal to start with. If it's that bad don't do long haul.

I fail to see how my feelings or "personality hang up" (very condescending by the way) would be considered rude. Its had no affect on him whatsoever.

However, in my opionion, and I know we don't agree, is that his actions have been inconsiderate to other passengers on a very long journey.

There are plenty of things in life which we can do, but doesn't always mean we should.
Another lego figure! 😂

reclining your seat isn't rude or inconsiderate on a long haul flight. if anything, it's rude or inconsiderate for someone to complain about someone reclining their seat on a long haul flight, especially if its someone who rarely flies.

If he wants to knock his seat out but can't because you just don't like it that's an impact on him.

My personal opinion is the person in front can have their seat up, down, or something in the middle, it's their seat. I don't care, flying is shit regardless.

Why does the frequency of a flyer matter? (Maybe they too were on their first long haul in 13 years!)

We had paid money for our seats on that flight just like they had? 🤷‍♀️

Nothing happened to him!! He continued to leave his seat reclined for pretty much the entire journey (meals being the exception). So my feelings had no affect on him whatsoever.
But yes, flying is shit, we can agree on that 😂

He could be on an inferior football bitching about his aching back and the nasty man that huffed and puffed the whole flight which affected his social anxiety.

It's an annoyance, but I've no real problem with it, it's just passengers making use of the facilities that everyone has.

In a perfect world, the recliners would only be in planes used specifically for overnight flights, but the existence of Mrs. Brown's Boys is irrefutable proof that the world is far from perfect, so recliners are here to stay.

I really don’t miss flying around everywhere week after week.

Worst time of all is during the summer holidays when you get the once a year mob. From car park through check-in, security, bar/lounge*, boarding, flight, getting off, passport control and baggage collection the difference in the types you’re sharing your world with is just a horrendous experience. You really notice the difference when it’s just poor down-trodden business travellers who all accept what a miserable experience travelling is and share a mutual gallows humour.

*The weekend millionaires are a breed apart once they get in the lounges for £25 a pop and lord it like they’re minor royals.
We're flying back in your Summer this year but we've splashed out on business class with Qatar. No reclining issues. Flat beds and an upstairs bar. Get in there.
You’ll love it! The Q Suite cubicles on the Sydney-Doha leg will bring nothing but joy and happiness to your world.

see flared's post. those that fly often just want to get from a to b without hassle. infrequent flyers that think they own the place can be a real pain in the arse.

Totally acceptable and lots of explanations.

10am flight...probably at airport at 7am, left house at 6am, up at 430am..probably late to bed as was packing/sorting. As soon as fasten seats belt signs goes out, tell behind I am reclining but give me a tap around meal time and have a snooze.

If going to Asia (+8) then I would want to sleep around 2pm onwards so I am straight into new time zone. In fact I will often go to bed late the night before so I know I will sleep on the flight.

The Dubai flight takes a weekend millionaire and raises it! I am talking full families in obvious full fake designer outfits.

The red eye down to Heathrow over the school holidays is horrific alongside the 4/5 holiday flights heading off around the same time.

I hate it when people decline seats. I’ve taken hundreds of flights and have never done it once.
you stood all the way?
It's a neverending debate. Personally, I wish they would just take away the option to recline the seats. It's an annoying lottery whether you get someone who does this and spoils the flight. Although I can understand why some people do it, it only really works if it's all or none.
Long haul, it’s acceptable. A minor annoyance which is easily overcome
