Hello mate. The weather here is generally lovely through the Winter but it’s a bit more prone to storms which are increasingly severe but only last 2-3 days.

The climbs here go over 1,000mtrs and it can get really chilly on the descents. So at this time of year, I’ll generally wear a l/s base layer, a Gabba, arm-warmers and a gilet and sometimes even put on a shower jacket for descents. Get a bit warm on the climbs though. Don’t forget that I’m a soft southern wuss who feels the cold.

I heartily recommend the area though. Brilliant, beautiful, quiet climbs. We worked out that in a 6 hour ride on Monday that, once we were away from the coast, we’d seen more World Tour pros than either moving cars or other cyclists.
This trip we’ve seen Bahrain McClaren, Astana, NTT, Lotto Soudal, Sunweb, QuickStep, Vital Concept, Direct Energie, CCC plus women’s team and lots of Pro Conti.

If you want to know more and chat through good routes etc, just let me know.

Cheers mate...Know you're the man for Althea way ;)
To be honest If I went to Mallorca in mid Feb I'd expect the same weather as you describe. As for the cold, despite being born and bred Northerner I really feel the cold( especially hands/feet)

Will be in touch if we decide to do it. Kristina wants to go to Cap Negret ( believe been done out recently) They do bike hire, but internet suggests there are other bike hire places ?
Food for thought

Thanks again...and enjoy your current trip 👍

Bahrain McClaren are currently staying in Cap Negret!:cool:

I use a bike shop called Crono Bike to hire bikes (usually when EasyJet have failed to put a mate’s bike on the plane). Proper local bike shop and it costs @€15 a day for an Orbea with disc brakes & Shimano 105.
Ta will have a look...to be fair if Hitchin was any sort of mate he'd leave his pride and joy for me to thrash. ;)

:lol::lol:Youll get a better training benefit if you’re lugging a heavy bike up the climbs.
Only thinking about your wellbeing, mate?

My car rental was cheaper than my bike rental last time I was out

If I get much slower I'll be hiring an electric bike 👍

Has anyone got any experience of unbranded chinese carbon wheelsets? Been reading up on them and the majority of reports sound good. Made in the same factory as the like of zipp etc but about two grand less.

go for them...know of loads who’ve used them without any bother whatsoever..obviously the likes of Zipp argue quality controls are poor and you’re dicing with death using them.

loads of lads have used not only their wheel sets but also frames and all swear by them

Yeah. Descending from the glandon. Mate had to pull hard on the anchors and the whole thing delaminated. Was horrendous.

Heard these horror stories but apparently they were from a few years back whereas the quality and technology has improved since.

Loads of videos on youtube of wheelsets and frames. Some of the wheels have updates after a few thousand miles and main gripe is more related to the hubs rather than the rims

Tbf I've seen a zipp shred too. Probably just unlucky

I was riding through Macclesfield today & went down a street I haven't been down before. There was a pub called the Cock In Treacle.
It's a strange place, Macc, like.

Posted on here had a bad crash few weeks back, not been out since .
Bought some new cleats for shoes .
The sole of shoes have some lines / markers on assume to guide you where to attach cleats , have just put them on 4th line up and central , not forward or back, does it make much difference where attach the cleats ? Genuinely don’t know

it can make a big difference...the lines are just a guide to try and match your fitting on previous shoes and cleat position.
loads of videos on YouTube about getting the right position.
like saddle position and loads of other things it’s very individual. When you get a cleat position you like, make a note ( I take a picture on my phone) to replicate in future

never really cycled much before, bought a bike and went out for first time yesterday, 20 miles from Shields to newcastle, back across north side then pedestrian tunnel. Hopefully lose some weight doing that once a week or so until I can do some proper rides. if I get into it i may buy some proper gear. in some serious pain today mind, can tell I never exercise.

Good luck with it all, but this is a cycling thread. You cant just say you bought a new bike! What sort of bike is it? what groupset does it have?
