Johnson Exit Date as Tory Leader

Just been on Betfair to trade out of my lay on Starmer for Labour leader and noticed the market on Johnson's exit date as Tory leader where he's as low 1.40 to still be there in 2024 or later.

Seems very short to me. Given his history of gaffes and the fact Brexit isn't yet 'done' I'm not convinced he will survive full term as Tory leader even without another GE.

What's the wisdom of the SMB - Will Johnson still be Tory leader in 2024?

Edit: Sorry mods, should have been in the nutters politics forum - if somebody can move please.

Can't see him being outed by the party given his majority.

Gaffes don't seem to negatively affect him, he doesn't give a fuck. I reckon he could get filmed sniffing coke off a prossies arse crack next week and still be PM in 2024.
This. ATM I cant see him going anywhere. He is the man for the times, which ever way you look at that.

I think he's dog shit and will deliver fuck all of use tbh.

He's good at deflecting accountability and bullshittery though so he'll plod on until he runs out of people to blame (remainers, the oppososition, the EU etc). Wouldn't surprise be if he wins a 2025 election before that happens.

Could win 3 elections with the state of the Labour party, particularly if Long Bailey wins. There was a time when your dick would get you into trouble in politics now its seems to enable politicans There's still a good 10 years mileage in blaming the EU and Corbyn for all his government lies & fuck ups

The Brexit blame game has a shelf life, I don't think Johnson can keep playing for another decade.

It seems he could probably deflect enough to make it through a 2025 election right now though.

There's no milage in blaming Corbyn, he was never in government.

He needs to "get Brexit done" and convince the electorate "Brexit is working" to stay in power.

He'll certainly try. Anyway I think we are stuck with for the next 2 elections, he'll certainly win the next one

It's certainly his to lose, he may want to step down and profit in 5 years though, even if Brexit goes tits up for the likes of us there will be plenty of cushy board positions available to him from those that have benefitted.

Aye well he's also prime minister and given how shit you think he is, it tells you something about comrade corbyn.

Even when the tories are shit - they are a better option than momentum. 👍

That really depends on whether he delivers a Brexit that improves people's lives.

No matter who ends up PM the majority of the electorate didn't vote for their party so I'm in good company.

"Get Brexit done" was 2019, now he needs to get it right or not get blamed.

The left will spend the near future tearing each other apart, leaving Johnson's rabid government free to indulge in its incompetence unopposed.

Leave voters will blame all the inevitable humiliations and chaos caused by leaving the EU on remainers and the EU itself, leaving Johnson's baffling popularity unscathed.

He's good until some point about midway through the next parliament, when he'll resign and let some other sap deal with the real mayhem.

Well given that loads of NE voters turned their backs on Labour and delivered him an overwhelming majority the pressure is definately on to be seen to be doing something for the NE.

As for BREXIT - the next interesting thing is Brussels 29 January IIRC - where the Commission (?) rubber stamps the deal so far. Dont know what happens if they say no - as they might. 🤔

He may well call an early election before the full impact of Brexit hits home,

Firstly most of the NE is still red, for those that turned he's promised something to them, now he needs to deliver something. A deal can get rubber stamped, but it needs to turn out to be tangibly better (or at least not tangibly worse) than what came before.

It needs to be shown to be more than snakeoil long term.

Maybe, with a comfortable majority why bother though. He wants to get rid of fixed term parliaments anyway and he'll have the numbers to do that which I'm fine with, 4 elections in a decade have shown it to be a poor piece of legislation).
