Piled a stone on

Jelly Belly

My lass and I had our second kid in August and I've gained a stone in weight since then, the sleepless nights coupled with no time to get out running and then the limited time for decent meals has lead to me snacking loads at work and generally eating absolute shit. Are there any easy to follow diet plans out there which don't involve any kind of shake drinks? When I google it I just get plagued by adds for supplements etc

I've piled the weight on over Christmas.

Track your calories for a week. Weigh yourself at the beginning and end, then amend your calorie intake to be in a 300-400kcal deficit. Eat less, move more. Fortunately, losing fat is a lot easier than gaining muscle.

Cheers mate i'll do just that

Use the MyFitnessPal app

You can enter your weight and how much you want to lose per week. If you log everything you can see if you're going to break your calorie allowance for the day.

Cant recommend MFP enough. The base free version served me well while I was purely dropping weight. Pay the tenner a month for the premium now though as it lets you set your own macro goals and stuff

Similar to OP - had twins in July, and concepts such as "free time", and "not being utterly shattered" are a distant memory.
Also put on about a stone. Really trying to find some time to get back into cooking properly and excercise. I've created a space in the garage for DDPY.

The problem I have with this, is that its great if you buy stuff that you can look up on the app - but most of what we eat on an evening is made from scratch, and not usually by me.
How on earth do you put "a portion of my missus' cottage pie" in MFP?

You add the ingredients and create a meal, you can proportion the meal.

I don't know what went in it though. Same if I get something from the shop of the road that does "home cooked" lunches.

Its fine if its me, on my own, cooking stuff. But 5/7 evening meals, the missus cooks random stuff. And lunches, about half are from places I couldn't easily put into the app.

I think my problem is that if it doesn't work 100%, then I reject it out of hand...

Menu>meals recipes and food>create recipe.

Unless you slaughter your own cattle you should find all your own ingredients in there just the same way as you would scanning/searching individual foods in the main bit.

I have my Spag Bol, pasta bake, Mexican beans and chicken satay recipes in there.
Think I might just have to spend some time creating the meals in the tool. It'll be harder when I get say, "nachos with chilli" from the place over the road. Or when the missus makes up some random mushroom sauce on a chicken breast - how big is the chicken, how much cream etc etc.

edit - missed your original reply. my response was aimed at “[your] missus home cooked shepherds pie”. I wouldn’t buy anything for my lunch from the local takeaway 1) because I’m stingy and 2) because I wouldn’t know what was in it. If I’m out for a meal then I’ll take a reasonable guess based on my searches- those would be days if gomovwe my calories anyway so wouldn’t really be that bothered what I had in.

The place I'm thinking of is sandwiched between 2 "shite" places (greggs etc) and pushes itself as "healthy homemade foods". So its a lesser of, in this case, 3 evils!

I prefer my huel for lunch, but don't always remember to make it before I head out.

just ask her to weigh things as she makes them. It's amazing how quicly you can have an educated guess at stuff too.

I barely dare ask her the time since we had the twins. I'm lucky as fuck that I get a meal made at all.

Ok, created a MFP account. Trying to start by creating my breakfast item

Its a massive batch of home made steel cut oats with dried fruits. Made with a 4 to 1 ratio of oats to milk, and IIRC 250g of dried fruits chucked in. Then portioned into take away containers, of which I have half each morning, with a splash of extra milk added.

How le fuck do I create that?????
.
Magic, and now I try a different way, and

Stop being a grumpy fatty and try to be a happy one.

Eventually you can gauge how much you’re eating and it becomes a habit.

Don’t get bogged down by the minutiae, you know what is healthy and filling and you know what is shite.

Becoming a parent isn’t a valid excuse, there are millions of them out there and they’re not all overweight.

You sound stressed, if you don't mind me saying?

I've lost 2 - 3 stone over the past few months literally by not really eating much food. Not having the extra pounds to carry about just makes me fitter and fitter. I eat a lot of tinned soup but having it with loads of bread is my downfall. I also eat to many nuts.

Weigh the items and divide by the number of portions. It’s not rocket science mate.
