Star Trek

Star trek discovery. Any good, or not worth bothing with?
Difficult to answer.
If you are a die hard Trekie then its ok ish.
It doesn't have the same format as the previous series and their various incarnations, it's a long continuous story line, as opposed to independent story lines each week.
Some great new characters and very well done with some links to previous series.
If you are a general Sci Fi fan, then its a fantastic watch and the modern era of binge watching then this hits the spot.
It's a grower, first season ended well despite a lackluster start, second series was much better. Really looking forward to season 3.
I can't see them doing a season 3, discovery is now in the future along with half the crew.

Productions teams all lined up working on 2 different shows, and 2 very close timelines.

I fully expect a crossover, at the very least, if not a total merge.

Great stuff if they do

Recently went back and watched DS9 after writing it off at the time, really enjoyed it. Might do the same with Enterprise as I ditched that a few episodes in too.

I know there's Picard and Discovery. Are they were actually doing one with Georgiou or a Pike/Spock show, heard both were pitched but hadn't seen anything.

Discovery has suffered a lot by being mostly about one character, Burnham. Traditional Trek ( and most other shows to be fair) has always had an episode focussing on one particular crew member. It gives a lot more depth to the whole show, and some back story. 2 seasons in and we still hardly know the rest of the crew and to be honest, I struggle to name them. As they were almost extras, the rest of the crew has not been cast that well. Now they have moved way way into the future, they face doing a Voyager, where the crew you have is the crew you are stuck with.

Season 2 did make a few things better and added a bit more depth, so hopefully the writers have enough to work with.

Hopefully

It's called Discovery, but they didn't really discover anything new apart from time travel and then decided to bury any information about it.

I've been watching the New Lost in Space, the first season when they were lost in Space with a female, yet still Evil Smith was class, the second series they're back with the rest of the migrants (So, not Lost in Space) and it has been rubbish.

havent watched it yet, all the reviews have been very positive though

Was DS9 filmed with a potato? The picture quality has always put me off watching it.

It's the name of the ship.

The next generation wasn't even the next generation.
I know that and Voyager was a ship called Voyager as was Enterprise. But you would have thought in relation to TOS that it was build to discover the universe.

But TNG when came out in 1987 I'm sure it was.

Might be the case I was expecting more than they deliverted, I'd hyped it up to myself.

Discovery was a secret science vessel doing some shady tech research. On that front the discover quite a bit.

There was the enterprise B, the enterprise C.... It clearly wasn't the next generation either for the Enterprise name more the TOS crew. I'm aware this is petty, it's simply your argument applied to another show in the franchise.

If they released Star Trek: Excalibur I don't think we'd take issue that the ship wasn't a massive sword.

People expected it to be the best trek ever immediately. Completely forgetting that Voyager, DS9 and even NG took 2-3 seasons to really get going.
Enterprise had so much content available to it once they'd got into their swing - but they were cut short, and the abortion-films that JJA made was the eventual result

This. People should have realised that it would be a long road getting from there to here.

I genuinely thought that was true, can't remember where I heard that mind. I will bow to your superior knowledge.
That’s the problem with this forum nowadays. Very difficult to tell the genuine posters from the wums. Sorry marrow.
