Another day another grooming gang....

Depressing reading to be honest and the report also highlights the kids were let down by both the police and child services.
Town after town after town up and down the country this has happened.
Maybe it’s time to look not just at the perpetrators but the people
Involved in the cases and why they just let shit like this slide

....and a proper look at priests and the like that have similarly been allowed carte Blanche in the past.

Police knew about it,but were apprehensive to do anything because of the racist angle, its not racist, its the truth, its facts, how can the Pakistan connection be racist?Queue SMB indignants anti-racist posse............
As we see on here anything that may highlight a significant amount of wranguns in certain communities is normally followed by a deluge of the usual suspects crying racist.

Child services and police should be above such criticisms and have the balls to act otherwise they are just as culpable in the gangs ‘success’

It says here that insufficient resource was the problem. Could nationwide cuts to policing and social services be also to blame?

“Officers managed to quickly identify a network of nearly 100 Asian men potentially involved in the abuse of scores of girls via takeaways in and around Rusholme, but the operation was shut down shortly afterwards due to resources, ‘rather than a sound understanding’ of whether lines of inquiry had been exhausted.”

Who are these usual suspects? I’m always being told I’m a hard left Corbynite and I’ve said over and over again that there is a clear problem within certain Asian communities.

Why aren’t we talking about GMP not having the money to investigate? Who caused cuts to their budget?

I’d have thought a force the size of greater Manchester could divert resources from other operations to protect the most vulnerable rather than try and use a lack of resources as an excuse.
Are child services using the same excuse?

Nail on head 👍

It is my understanding that unless devolved to another organisation under a Section 75 agreement, children’s social services remains the responsibility of the local authority. Local authorities who have also had their budgets cut - you know this. I’m not making it political just pointing out the reality - councils and police have seen cuts, we both agree on that yes?

GMP clearly did not have the resource to investigate, that’s what that MEN article says.

Child protection should have been the biggest priority!

What if you have more absolute priorities than you have funding to spend on though?

How did we get to a point in this country where police forces can’t afford to investigate mass sexual exploitation of our most vulnerable children?

People would rather scream and wail about political correctness gone mad whilst completely ignoring the fact this very article says the police did not have the resources to investigate grooming gangs.

And I’m saying in cases like these funds could have been diverted, in the councils case from reserve funds and a quick google suggests gmp has an annual budget in excess of half a billion quid, I find it a bit daft and far fetched that resources couldn’t have been sourced somewhere in there. It’s a problem that’s been blatantly ignored for years
And it can’t be just resources when we have authority after authority and force after force ignoring this behaviour in towns up and down the country for years and years
Child protection should have been the biggest priority!
Indeed

Seemingly not. A number of detectives assigned to the case weren't even detectives. They couldn't even find office space for the investigation. Never mind adding to it they were a complete shambles from the start. This when people knew exactly what was going on.

'Boyfriends' vesting their young teen girlfriends in the care homes they were supposed to be safe in. It's just mindboggling.

  1. Divert from where? Councils can’t always just take from one budget and use on another, and they keep reserves because further cuts might be coming - if they didn’t keep reserves and went under, we’d be slagging them off no?
  2. What should the police divert from? Burglaries? Violence?
  3. In THIS case the article we are discussing explicitly states resources were the key issue - let’s not get off topic, this is about this case in Manchester. Why can the police not afford to investigate grooming?

And that’s down to senior officers ignoring the problem, you move the personal to where they are most needed, these kids weren’t seen as the most vulnerable merely something to do ignore

Is that perhaps because there’s a shortage of police including a shortage of detectives?

Child protection should have been an absolute priority and people in high places should have ensured this was so. It was a disgrace and another failing of government cutting funding and institutional failing.

I’d say cases like this trump other budgetary wants. You stick resources where people are most at risk!
Manchester is just yet another city/ town where the authorities haven’t wanted to investigate properly. The same is evident when it comes down to paedo priests over the years

It quite literally says there was not enough resource. You are so blindly stubborn that you will simply not acknowledge what the article is clearly saying - not enough resource to investigate grooming.

You will happily place the blame at the door of the left or the politically correct and you will completely ignore the blindingly obvious fact that their budget has been cut

“Mr Hopkins said although there had been a rise in police funding from council tax, 80 per cent of the force’s budget was made up of government grants, which have been cut.”
