The Outsider

Watched the first one last night with the second one on the planner. An excellent start and very much looking forward to watching the second tonight.

I thought the book was atrocious after a decent start (there's a massive genre shift part of the way through) so I was really surprised to see it getting such positive reviews. Unfortunately, for me, King just doesn't have any of the old magic left these days. Maybe the producers have worked their own magic into it somehow...

This for me too, thought it was a great start and was really interested in how he was going to get out of the hole he had dug but then he just took the easy way out and it descended into nonsense.

I have enjoyed some of his later material though, the bill hodges trilogy was good even if there were diminishing returns. Really enjoyed 11/22/63 and under the dome (christ they messed that up badly on tv)
He still has the issues with not knowing how to finish his books though.

I strongly believe that those two novels you mention are examples of his famous trunk novels, partly or mostly written years back when he still had a knack for writing and brought back to life years later.

I've heard that said before but havent seen or read anything to back it up tbh. There are other examples of good stuff in the last 15-20 years too though

I think he mentioned Under the Done being a trunk novel himself, actually. He's done some decent stuff, yes, but he's not the same as be was. His quality has dropped substantially, IMHO.

Well I like his books. Enjoyed 11.22.63 and on tv. Just read the outsider and thought it was great so looking forward to watching it. Recorded the first 2.
