Protein Powder

Haven’t used any kind of supplements for years. Put a bit weight on since October after we had another kid & gym classes & football fell off the cliff. Aim is to get rid of the fat gain & build lean muscle again. I’ve worked out I need 190g of protein for my 14st 10lb weight. I’m struggling to hit that with my current diet, I’m aware this needs to change & I'm looking at that, but in the meantime I’ll use protein shakes after a gym session & potentially after tea on a night as a sweet treat. There’s also a bit of a mentality aspect too, if I’m doing this properly, I won’t eat shit.

Question is, what’s considered a decent price? I’ve previously bought a bundle from My Protein, similar to this

I’m not sure if adding the BCAA 2:1:1, L-Carnitine & CLA are essential, or whether it’s worth buying the protein separately. It’s a canny wedge to fork out.

There’s this on Amazon which is 95p per 100g which seems to be the cheapest option.

What’s everyones thoughts? Happy to be educated.

I’ve use gold standard for years. Best tasting one I’ve found while being good quality
How much do the qualities vary? I was in Tesco this morning & they had own brand. In my head I’m just looking how many grams on protein I’ll be taking onboard.
Just realised the Amazon link I’ve put in the first post doesn’t work

The Protein Works Whey Protein 80 Concentrate Shake Powder, Strawberries n Cream, 2 kg https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00G2AJAOO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_iDDfEbDNTBC7G

Usually just go for My Protein as you rarely ever pay full whack.

Currently got slow release casein for before bed, with either diet impact whey (cookies and cream) or whey isolate (chocolate peanut butter) to go alongside gym days.
Down to 17 stone 2 from 17 stone 10 on new years day. Cut going better than expected although that's almost certainly a lot to do with water weight.

55/25/20 macro split P/C/F based on 2,100kcal down from 2,800.

How much you eat compared to bodyweight.

I know but that article you posted says that the most well known method of working it out is bollocks. I want to make sure I get enough but protein is expensive so I don't want to be eating so much I stop getting any benefit from it.

Try reading the article.

Depends on what my training is looking like, whether I'm gaining or losing weight and how lean I am, but around 0.8g per lb.

Eating over that isn't really an issue though. In certain people I recommend higher if they are comprising their intake more of lower leucine containing sources. Protein can be used as glucose but not vice versa.

You dont need 190g of protein. I have gained muscle over the years on much less. Its just bro science to sell protein powder.
One shake after a workout or BCAA and a good nutrition plan of proper meals will suffice. Suggest cottage cheese before bed as well.

Someone will need 190g protein, it's all relative to the person

He probably will need around that
