Totally. The whole thing about transferring his glass cage of emotion from a cellar to a storage unit was rather odd. Also, where did the rare books go? Was watchable, but a shitty Dexter rip imo. The druggy brother in law was a terrible character too. Hipster, to crack head, to Poirot in a few episodes.
 
Read the book You and its sequel Hidden Bodies. From what I've heard the series follows the books fairly closely, might give it a watch.

Series 2 doesn't really follow the books tbh. Thought it was alright until the ending which would have been a decent stopping point until the last thirty seconds

They didn't even need to do that as a set up for Series 3. Could have just started series 3 at that point
