Billy Hughes, RIP

What a game, if Pop had stuck that one away just before ht, we'd have won it I'm sure.
Being a Sunderland fan just became more depressing today.
Thinking of Billy as a player, the super team he played in, the atmosphere, the match day experience then - gritty but non sanitised etc etc.
Living in the past? Yeah sometimes, but f##k me, no rose tinted specs here, footy was footy then and I'm so f***ing glad to have been in my teenage years then.
Get me a f***ing time machine.
Me and you both mate. I’d have been twelve the first time I saw him play, I’ve lost count of the times I saw him make good defenders look f***ing stupid. Some of the knackers couldn’t even get close enough to kick him and there was some bloody good defenders around then.

Very sad - I had the great good fortune of being at Wembley in 1973, seeing Billy and the rest of the Lads in their pomp, my greatest memory of supporting Sunderland.

RIP Billy, commiserations to his family and friends.

Our own George Best, could pass opponents on either side, could use either foot, could head the ball, and work for the team. Also owned a shop, as did George Best, RIP Billy and thank you for the moments of magic and a whole load of memories. Condolences to your family and friends !!!

My first Sunderland hero.
A sad day today, rest in peace Billy
Same here, and still my hero to this day.
I posted on another thread earlier, when a hero of ours dies, part of ourselves, dies too.
A truly sad day, and am not ashamed to say, I shed a few tears today.
My two sporting hero's from a bygone era, are both gone now.
Muhammad Ali and Billy Hughes, both were born entertainers, and both will live forever, in the hearts & memories, of those who idolised them.
