Elite Dangerous

I picked this up ages ago and never got into it. I've got plenty time coming up to spend on the PS4 so may give it another whirl. Does anyone have a link to any decent guidance on how to make the transition away from noob to mildly competent?
Wow. That's quite an open ended question. The simple answer is that if you can take off and land without pancaking your ship then you're competent enough to play any part of the game.

Just remember to stay in Solo until you feel confident and even then don't go to Community Goals or Engineers in Open. Ever.

If you have any specific questions then feel free to ask on here and someone will jump in to help but there really is too much to this game to sum it all up in one post.

This should give you a good starting point.
There are loads more links here if you need them.

Not played this in ages then Jim posts there's free currency so I jumped back in.

It was interesting trying to get my corvette out of the letterbox. I accidentally pulled my guns in the station too. Shat my self when the warning sounded, thought I was about to have a very expensive re-introduction.
Is using auto launch and auto Dock cheating
Kind of, but I understand why people use them.

Just do the tutorials. Don't use auto docking until you've mastered how to do it manually. If you can land and take off without wrecking your ship you've mastered the hardest part of the game imo.

It's definitely not cheating. I use it all of the time because I'd rather take my hands off the controls to roll a fag or make a coffee (or scratch my arse) than manually take the ship in or out.

Just do as @Pseudonym Number 1 says and make sure you can land it yourself if you have to because there will come a time when your docking computer has been shot to shit in a fight. You don't want to be learning how to land when you have 1% hull left and you can't see your HUD because your canopy is in shards.

Only a few weeks ago I got my Vette smoked leaving the station. I use Voice Attack and one of the commands is "Mine" which causes the mining lasers on my mining ships to continuously fire without me having to keep my finger on the trigger.

Turns out it also causes the main guns on any ship to start firing - even when I'm in a BattleVette leaving the station on auto and accidentally cough.

That was an expensive learning experience.

I use a docking computer still on some ships, depends on what the load outs are and what I use the ship for.

:( I was silly and bought another account. I always wanted to go on one of the expeditions but didn't want to be away from the bubble so long, more so now I am in a squadron.

So I bought a new account during the steam sales and engineered a exploration Phantom.

I leave for the formidine rift exploration expedition on boxing day.

If you don't come back can I have your stuff?

Made it to the end of my expedition. Took a bit grinding to get my new account and ship ready but I really enjoyed it. It was much more enjoyable exploring with a group, meeting up at the waypoints on the way.
The route took us through some pretty cool sights, the heart & soul nebulas looked awesome.

The formidine rift was a pain for some of the guys to get through to reach the final way point, they had to go circling all over the place to find a way through. I was lucky I spent the time engineering my ship and had a 60ly jump range so didn't have any issues. I didn't even notice there was a rift.

:( I just need to fly back now

I’ve started getting back into this, fired up my save from last time I played it to realise I was in Colonia - so first couple of days were spent honking and scooping back to the bubble

Dusted off the Corvette when I got back - but need to get a decent mining ship setup now

I should have really, but thought I’d bomb back myself to get reacquainted with the game A which took about 10 jumps - the other few hundred were less entertaining

cool looking carrier though

Bought this in Feb for the laptop for a fiver.

used to play it on Xbox but didn’t get in that deep tbh, was also a lot less forgiving and punishing to play a good few year ago.

smashing through it now. Trade elite in a little over 6 weeks, and busy collecting mats to engineer a decent combat build.

How hard is it to make credits on this? Played it on the ps4 but can't sync up/ transfer my account to pc. Been 2 years or so since I last properly played so I assume a lot has changed.

you can transfer your credits across to PC so you get the money but will lose the PS save if I recall correctly.

Its not too bad to make money though there are always booms, mining is the most profitable. They have increased combat pay outs significantly. Its just the initial start that takes a while to get going moving from the basic ships to the bigger ones where you earn more.
