SoL Concerts

Pretty much this. We are looking for acts like U2 etc, but getting them up here isn't easy.

U2 have been touring for pretty much 4 years too so that window may have passed for a while.

You really need to sell 35k+ to make it work and only a handful of acts can guarantee this.

Wouldn't shock me to have no bands on this year.

I think you’re right mate. There was talk of Liam Gallagher doing a couple of stadiums in addition to Heaton Park, but that now doesn’t look like happening. I can’t see us getting an act

People commenting on here about break even points etc , as usual , have absolutely no idea what they are talking about and no idea about business to make statements like “you need to sell xx tickets “ .
One option is to rent the venue out, then you couldn’t care less how many tickets are sold .
If you don’t do that , and pay a band to perform, then it depends how much you pay them , how much the tickets cost, what franchises pay you etc etc so many variables that are obviously not known .
It’s just people talking bollocks on here for the sake of it.
However, I would love to know how Gary the Hair managed to lose money on gigs if that was actually true .

As some of us keep pointing out that was how the concerts were set up originally we received a fee, some tickets to sell 3,000 I believe and retained any corporate areas with no risk to the club. Garry Hutchinson came in and decided he could make more money by putting them on himself. He set up massive team within the club (at one point we had more admin staff than Man Utd). He didn't have the contacts so fees for sound systems, ticket distribution etc were higher, he negotiated one off deals with artists rather than part of a tour so all the overheads were higher and on some occasions he didn't sell enough tickets to cover the cost and relied on the Council - when they bailed out then the concerts under the Hutchinson model was unsustainable. If we simply hired out the ground or looked for less expensive acts there's no reason why we couldn't/shouldn't make money out of the concerts.

Just goes to show how far you can get by being a bluffer doesn't it.

should be piss easy to make money on concerts at SOL, if limit them to 5 or 6 over the summer months
plenty of bands would still sell 40k+
You think? I don't think there are many acts that would sell that many at top prices.

U2, fleetwood mac, one direction, possibly little mix (but they do the cricket ground so maybe not), Taylor Swift.

I dont think he did, I think he benefited greatly.

Not many bands could sell out 40k, it also does not help that the tour could include Glasgow, Sunderland, Manchester, Coventry, London.

The top of my head of active acts I would go for

Rolling Stones
Paul McCartney
U2
Fleetwood Mac
Madonna
AC/DC
Foo fighters
Beyonce
Taylor Swift
Coldplay

Other acts could depending on how many dates they are doing, such as if it was Sunderland and London

Muse
Blur
Radiohead

Only lost money on North East Live, every other gig returned a healthy profit including the Spice Girls

Liam Gallagher could probably shift a few mind.

Could just look at the Hyde Park concerts each year and replicate

Plenty would but are they touring next summer? If so plenty of those would then prefer to do an extra gig in Scotland or Manchester/Leeds than the carry on of a one off gig inbetween.
