Accept we arent going up automatically this year

This goes against every fibre of my being and people will rightly say, "its only November and we are only 8 points of second". A third season at this level is an absolute disaster, there is no doubt about that. However, if we dont win the next two games, even the most 'glass half full' supporter will surely concede it is highly unlikely we will make the top two.

If, after the next two, the worst has happened i think it would be better to take a longer term view and just target next season. Give parkinson this window and then until February to see if we start to move in the right direction. In the meantime get a plan together of what kind of side we want to be. Identify managers that suit that and forensically research them. Get the references done and get it down to a pool of two or three that we can realistically attract. Task the scouts with identifying the sort of players we think would suit how our 2 or 3 candidates would like to play, (as we have identified the kind of manager we want these should suit all 3). Aim to end January with a rough list of managers and players.

If in February, things are looking ok under parkinson, make the decision whether you stick with him until the end of the season. If you want rid, get one of those managers and use the remainder of the season to get him in, assess what hes got and get the incomings and outgoings under way, ready for a full on assault on the title next year.

Its totally counter intuitive to me to effectively write the season off, but we have to start being realistic. Rather than short term, reactive thinking where we are always chasing our tails and putting sticking plasters over things, maybe try a longer term, proactive approach. It is a painful thought but who knows? The acceptance the top two is off the table may release some pressure and negativity and see a up turn in performances and a surge going into the play offs.

If you look at the way we've played over the course of the season so far (especially the past 6 weeks) there is no rationale reason to believe we'll go up.

I can't believe we are actually starting to stink this league out rather than stamp our authority on it and get promoted.

Even with a strong transfer window we'll struggle.

We will have a very weak transfer window! The fans will revolt when they hear the three amigos justification for a less than sub 1 million spend!Don will bw booking his total sport slot now!

As bad as this league is there is absolutely no chance we'll finish in an automatic promotion spot this season. The likelyhood of reaching the playoffs also looks very slim under our owners, manager and players. Our best chance to get out of this league was last season and we might have done so had Ross been more experienced and more tactically astute in this league.

I think Ross got the best out of a woeful bunch of players last season.

Nothing changed this season until Parkinson made things worse.

We will really struggle to sign a good forward this January. In fact, any player we try to sign will be expensive. We need another big CM (or two) and a good CB.

🤬 we should be sacking the clown immediately. He should never have the transfer window, that would spell disaster!

I accepted it as soon as Ross failed to get promotion. We had one clear shot before our best players buggered off.

forgive me for jumping in, but you have 2 games in hand on 5th place and are only 3 points behind.. Obviously you all will know more about how capable you are of getting them points. Confidence is massive in football, a couple of wins on the bounce and all is rosy in the garden. You just need to look at us for that, we are shit, we play shit football, don't play to our strengths, and concede possession before a ball is kicked.. (think there was a stat floating around recently that we are the 2nd worst team in Europe).
All that aside, a couple of wins and you grow the confidence and get a decent position in the league.. It's by no means over, playoffs are still more than in your means.
Although as I said, you will know more than me as it's you lot who watch it every week.

The players don't appear to be responding to Parkinson and who can blame them. We've suddenly just started aimlessly booting the ball up the pitch at every available opportunity.
I'd be hugely pissed off if we don't make the play offs but automatic seems well beyond us.
And to think they had the audacity to target 100 points. It beggars belief.

I think it tells it's own story regarding their knowledge and application.

Ive accepted we arent going up through the playoffs either

We are utter toilet

How can we go from beating both Burnley and sheff united in the league cup and tranmare 5-0 to been utter turd, nothing to lose if we appoint skp!

To be perfectly honest, I never really considered it a possibility to begin with. May still scrape the play-offs with a bit of luck though.

So let Parkinson buy his own men in January, pick some managers who don’t play like Parkinson, sack Parkinson in Feb and start again?

You’re Stewart Donald aren’t you?

Delete automatically and you will probably be correct.

Nothing changed this season until Parkinson made thing

The players that we have this season are just a parody of what we had last season. Never thought that I would say it but we miss Cattermole, despite how much I was pleased to see him leave he did contribute in scoring goals from midfield. Honeyman is another one that I was more than happy to see leave but for all his faults he did at least have some pace going forward. What have we got now? A shaky looking defence, a midfield without any pace and strikers that couldn't score in a brothel. The owners have stripped the squad and replaced with utter shite and brought in a manager that nobody wanted but them. The 3 Amigos might well have had the best intentions when they came to the club but running this club is proving way beyond them.

My thoughts also but unless there's a big change of events (doubtful) then reaching the play-offs could be a step too far this season. After last seasons disappointing conclusion I think we're going to be stuck in this league for longer than we anticipated, then again it is Christmas and miracles sometimes do happen ;):D

Parkinson's appointment was the club accepting the playoffs at best, although having sat through the first 9 games even that is looking optimistic at the moment. My concern is that Parkinson is given some input in January and we end up with four or five players he wanted who the next manager doesn't want.

If you believe that Parkinson is going to fail here and inevitably lose his job within a matter of months (which I do) then why would you let him have any involvement in the January window at all? Much better to admit he was a mistake and get shot before we waste the January window like we're wasting time now.
The owners won’t be here when next season kicks off. They’ve lost interest. All they’re looking to do now is limit their losses.

Or the owners were less interested in selling off the china.

I mean I paraphrased slightly, but yes, that’s what you said.

Well firstly, at no point did i say, "pick some managers who dont play like Parkinson". I just said decide how we want to play. The club may decide on a direct, physical style.

Secondly, the players he brings in in January are unlikely to cost the earth anyway. I cant see us spending daft money, and rightly so to be fair. You shouldn't have to in this league if you do things properly. The risk of the cost of players the players he brings in should be offset against how much it would cost to sack him and his staff (at a guess a few hundred grand) and can be mitigated by the number of players out of contract in the summer. We shouldnt end up in a position where we are stuck with loads of players we dont want.

The alternative is to kneejerk now, sack him and appoint someone now with probably very little planning, expect him to assess the squad in a couple of weeks and put a list of transfer targets together. That is just the type of short sighted, reactive approach that has got us here. All im saying is use the fact that we arent going up this year to start thinking about what we are doing.

Thirdly, what type of reputational damage would we be incurring if we sack him now? He can rightly point to the fact he does not have the players he wants, and has some players out injured. There has already been mutterings from pundits etc that it would be ridiculous to sack him so soon and any half decent manager we look at would surely take this into account. Basically, i dont see any real benefit in sacking him now instead of giving him a fighting chance, with players to suit and doing it in two months time if hes still not turned it around. In the meantime, do some contingency planning in case he doesnt!
