Anyone else watching? I'm not too impressed, personally. Seems to be a fair few radical changes from the book.

I was pretty excited to see a version set during the period it was written but it's fallen flat for me. Despite its supposed era, it feels far too modern. I lost interest during this episode.

Was looking forward to watching this, mainly as I think Rafe Spall is a tremendous actor. Don't think I'll bother then.
I want to like him as his folks are great, but he's not covering himself in glory in this. Not at all.

Aye, I was looking forward to seeing it exactly the same as you. But it’s doing nothing for me unfortunately. Feels like it’s trying too hard to be Victorian sci-fi drama but also at the same time modern politically correct crap!

I will stick out until the end next week. But it’s an epic fail from me.

I think it’s dismal.

It has strayed too far away from the book and while the whole premise is fantastic the period “realism” is non-existent...the above-ground action in London appears to take place in some sort of Roman forum.

I’m not sure the BBC PC criticism applies here; the book was a satire/critique of colonialism. The real problem is that in my eyes it’s badly written and over-acted.
