Proper bonfire nights with the whole street out around a huge bonnie in the back field. A couple of years we had full size telegraph poles as the centre post.

Potatoes would be chucked in around the edges and pulled out when the skins were fully blackened and charred and the insides soft. You’d be sooted up to the eyeballs eating them but they were lovely.
Everyone’s Mam would bring a bit food out and it was a free for all tuck in. Crap fireworks paid for by the penny for the guy fund and the guy made from your Da’s old shirt and trousers stuffed with paper would be chucked on and watched as it burnt through.

Proper pit street community nights.

I was born in 1955. So by late 1970 I was 15.

Which meant that whilst I was only a kid (8-10) when the Beatles/Stones first happened I was reasonably aware of what was going on and exposed to some of the best popular music ever created as it happened and some of the most important social events - and still young enough to be in a punk band and still you enough to be involved with bands and music in the early 80s and... well I kind-of lost interest by the mid 90's

I also meant I was 18 in in May 1973.

Aye, my Mam was a shite cook anarl.
