The Outer Worlds

The graphics and lip syncing are a bit sub par, but otherwise seems like it's gunna be a good game. Only had about an hour or so on it but looking forward to sinking some time into it.

Surprisingly I’m not feeling this at all.
I expected to love it, but it is literally just stuff nicked from other more competent games. The moon bobble head thing is a blatant rip off of pip boy and well, the whole thing feels a bit cheap.

Must admire it does feel like a New Vegas expansion. Having said that I’m enjoying it, quite like how it’s not massively open world and it’s more little hub areas.

I'm enjoying the quest elements so far, not so keen on the combat - but that might be because I've still got Fallout muscle memory and keep swapping weapons when I mean to jump and other daft stuff like that

I like the Firefly vibe it has too

Like someone earlier said, im just not getting it. It's not open world and just little areas much like Mass Effect. The skills are just meh. The perks you get are pretty boring (to the point I don't bother levelling up straight away). The combat and pace of the game just feels like Borderlands and the game just seems to give you everything straight away (best bit of Fallout 3 was starting out so poor and shit you had to work your way up to being any good, using old shitty gear and guns that fell apart etc..).

The worlds are just a cluster fuck of fauna and mobs sitting about randomly doing fuck all. The quests are pretty boring so far (ive got the key thing to fly to that banned place and currently there).

It's just too many games into one. Would have been much better if they just done Fallout in space.

I'll probably drop this once something better is out (Red Dead). Already been choosing Escape from Tarkov over it when I have a decent amount of time to put into gaming.

Shame. Was hoping it to be fantastic.

Definitely agree with the perks, most of them have a minor impact (at best) on gameplay rather than actually feeling impactful on the game. The flaw system is interesting but there’s no point in taking flaws because the perks aren’t good enough to make up for the penalties you get for accepting flaws.

I just wish they would’ve made the combat a bit more interesting. The game is set in this sci fi universe and the combat is still pretty much just centred around guns. Was hoping it would take the Mass Effect route and give your character and companions powers to use. But no, it’s just guns and plasma rifles which aren’t particularly fun, new or interesting to use. Also, no grenades! What’s up with that.

I’m still enjoying the narrative side of it, but the gameplay does let it down a little bit.

I think the meat of this game is in the narrative and the dialogue, with shooting mechanics tacked on. Kind of the opposite approach Fallout 4 had. I felt the combat in that was semi decent, but they massively cut back on the narrative elements. I'm enjoying it, the world is very Bioshock-y to me which is a good thing.

Yeah like I say I’m still enjoying the game overall, but just lacks something to make it properly top tier. I get the feeling they ran out of time/money and had to scale back their ambitions. Would still look forward to any DLC they release and a sequel after that like.

I didn't like it at first, tried a few different builds then found one that made the game a lot more fun to play (TTD sniper ftw!)

It's not a Fallout alternative though it's been compared to it in every review I've seen. It has elements of many games but reminds me of the Mass Effect games more than anything.

It's the opposite of a Bethesda game in that I haven't found a single bug or crashed once.

It's smooth as silk and when mantipedes are flying everywhere and everyone's firing at once there's no slowdown at all.

The humour and dialogue isn't terrible and I've seen a hell of a lot worse. I'd say the reviews reflect how good the game is to play overall.

How did you set your character up initially? I always struggle at first to choose the way I want my character to go. I'm considering either starting again or just adapting my build going forward.
