The Stadium Of Light in 60+ years time

On the way to Oxford with me dad talking about the old Manor Ground and got on the subject of the state of Roker Park in its final years and how the SOL is nearly a 1/4 of the age of Roker.

The SOL was incredible when it opened but I don’t think anyone will disagree that it has been neglected for 20 years and looks tired and in need of TLC.

What do people think will eventually happen? Will we move to another new stadium one day, or will we eventually completely renovate the SOL so its more inline with modern grounds? Or come 2097 will it be falling to bits with the same roof thats now totally brown. Probably been discussed before but interested to see what people think.

The SSOL will never be a stadium like Spurs or Arsenal, but it could be so much better in many ways. Bob Murray did a hell of a job delivering it on that budget, but it is now in need of some surgery imo. The lower concourses, particularly the north, east and south, are substandard and, when there is a big crowd in, borderline dangerous imo. Some of the corporate areas are very tired and dated, and the roof is an absolute clip. No one is expecting gold plate up there, but there’s chunks of paint coating hanging off in parts. The external cladding to the south and east stands is a bit manky as well.

It goes without saying that what happens on the pitch is what really matters, but have a bit of pride in our home FFS.

The current owners won’t do owt as they’re potless.

We’ll be sharing the SOL with South Shields in 3 years time to cut costs. Don’t worry though, Stewart Donald said we’ll have the biggest budget ever seen in the Conference North.

in 60 years time, we'll have technology that allows us to be at the game without leaving our front room. We obviously already have virtual reality and all the rest but this will be improved and enhanced beyond recognition. There'll be no need for an actual stadium. We'll be sat our on sofa whilst chatting to the bloke next to us in the 'stadium'.
Aslong as we can keep the traditional boxing day smells of Turkey/beer farts with whiffs of new aftershave,

I think what will happen in the future is that the ground will always be where it is, but a stand may get knocked down and replaced by something more modern and do it bit by bit. Unfortunately in my opinion it will always be known as the stadium of light know when really it should have been named Monkwearmourh park
