Just shows

yes but they are higher up the league than other teamss, teams that are poorer, and JR couldnt get the result against them. JR set the team up in a way that meant five goals wouldntnt happen..he couldnt hanfdle te pressure of being expected to win most of the time and so set the team up to not lose.

I'm not defending JR, but last night was a bit of a fluke scoreline (not the overall result) IMO.

After the first goal went in, I was 100% confident we were going to win, as their defence was shocking. BUT the majority of our goals though came from their extremely woeful defending and mistakes.

JR would have still won that last night, maybe not by 5, but comfortably. Just saying.
no chance, not 5-0 , would have sat back at 1-0 to grind out result

It is.

This kinda reminds me of the transition from Mick Buxton to Peter Reid.

Buxton was as defensive as Ross was, massed ranks of players in defence and midfield whose primary aim was to prevent conceding.
When we did have the ball it was usually an aimless hoof to the head of Don Goodman with tippy feeding off the scraps and (as a print journalist put it), "midfielders told to sit back so much they'd need an ordinance survey map if they crossed the half way line".

Once we'd fought ourselves out of the relegation zone, Reid took the same group of players (minus Goodman) and some fringe players and got them playing as a team for each other and attacking more. And that was the beginning of it all.
The same players plus a few fringe players and a couple of signings.

Hopefully the 'Buxton Handbrake' that Ross found when he came here is well and truly 'off'.

I really hope PP gives it a go, we've nothing to lose and everything to gain, and I hope he gets time to do it when it goes off the rails a bit too.

When king Reid took owa Buxton think he only made one or two changes to the entire squad

Maybe Parky a better manager than Ross is

He appears to have less fear, and from last night he tried to 'put round pegs in round holes' (O9 the exception if course).

Ross had a 'tried and tested' gameplan that worked at two clubs in Scotland, and that's why we hired him.
We're just second guessing but maybe he didn't think he had the players to play the 'high press' we heard so much about?
And his anxiety that he had to 'win every match' here became a 'must not lose' mentality?

Either PP was lucky or or he's adapted the team to the best formation and way of playing that fits them?
Something Ross didn't see / do with the same players.

It was only an injury plagued Tranmere, and I remember last season when we beat them here they sat back and allowed us to play around them without ever really putting pressure on the ball.

Let's see where we are at Xmas - but as 'starts' go it's a good one!

:D

Yes their defence were very poor but we put them under constant pressure. That was the difference between last night and the previous games.

Under JR we would have not had players supporting Grigg constantly at 1-0. The vast majority of the midfield would have dropped back and invited pressure without putting a very poor defence under pressure.

They were made to look poor because we hounded them at every opportunity and sustained the attacking pressure.

The 5-0 scoreline flattered them marra. We had one disallowed for fuck all, had Grigg hit the post and McNulty inches away from finding the top corner.

what a difference a manager can make. There's no way PP can have done anything much about fitness levels or even coached all that many new ideas into the players in such a short time. So, if it's not physical change it must be psychological-even so, must take more than a few days to boost someone's confidence or self belief.

Makes me wonder if the players didn't like playing for Ross.
This! I call it the old manager bounce, not new manager bounce. You get rid of a manager some players aren't working for then all of a sudden they've got 'freedom' and put in a bit more effort. You only need to look at Mourinho at Man Utd last season with Solskjaer coming in last season to see it in full effect as it didn't last. That's because it was more Mourinho leaving that made the players start playing again due to 'relief' of no more Mourinho and I think Ross had this effect on our team.

Great win yesterday and good to see the players putting in the effort. The big question is will it continue and will Parkinson be able to keep the players motivated enough without making them not wanting to bust a gut for him. I hope and reckon he will do it and also in a couple of months time gets a few more players in to strengthen the 'want to win' mentality.

I don’t think it was that the players weren’t playing for Ross, it that was true they would have raised their game against Wycombe
I think it was his negative ideas that just was not working.
