I’ve been listening to some yanks talking about films and they keep mentioning various audience reaction moments, where they cheer, applaud or generally whoop and holler. Is this really a standard thing over there? And are they aware that we don’t do it over here? I think the only time I’ve seen any kind of crowd reaction over here was chanting “Rocky” during Rocky IV.

If I can change and you can change then everybody can change.

My Dad went to see a war film when he was about 20 and some RAF officers were in. Anytime a German plane was shot down, they all stood up, applauded and shouted things like bravo and chocks away
What year please? An estimate will do.
My grand ma used to be the pianist in local cinemas.

Probably mid to late 60's.
Going to take me ages to find out when cinemas had a live pianist but it was obviously to accompany silent films. What year did Laurel & Hardy stop doing silent films?

The bulk of their output came in the years 1927 to 1938 as they moved from silent shorts to “talkie” shorts to sound features.

oh well that's going a bit to far back marra.

There's a new version of Rocky coming out. In his toughest challenge yet, he faces John Bercow.

He takes a hiding, but is up for it come the second round.

But there isn't a second round as Bercow rules it out as too similar to the first. Bercow therefore wins.

First time I've ever seen it was this evening. 3 kids in front of me clapped at the end of zombieland 2.

Are you trying to track down your real grandad like
I'm trying to get a good understanding of cinema past and present marra as quite a few interesting conversations going on.

That's good.

One thing Brits aren't afraid to do at the cinema is get up and walk out lol.

I normally go for a tab half way through then sit back down and stink the place out.

Yes, very common in Canadian cinemas, too.

I remember someone shouting ‘gan on Yoda’ when he started bouncing all over the place in the crappy prequels.
Sounds like you were in a local cinema marra.
I watched the Signs movie about the crop circles (at Boldon Cinema when it was released in 2002) and someone shone a laser in the shape of a flying saucer on the screen about half way through the film. I thought fair enough thank you for your contribution. So people are shining lasers at the theatre screens these days that figures.
