Just watched this brilliant documentary from ufc fighter James wilks.
Bits in from arnie s, German strongman Patrick baboumian, plus several other high performing athletes (olympians, footballers, body builders) about vegan diets and the shit that we're fed by advertising, to eat (meat) like a man. Advertising not to dissimilar to smoking adverts in the 50/60's.

Lots of myths put to bed.
Lots of evidence to show that meat products dont help with inflammation and recovery.
That eating meat effects erections too!

I have been a massive meat eater for yrs, but have slowly been changing my eating habits.
After watching this im going to try to change to a fully plant based diet.

I get mocked regularly for not eating meat as often as the lads at work too, I laugh it off because they are just uneducated.

A lot of the top ultra runners like Scott Jurek are plant based I have been for 3 years looking forward to watching it and can only be a good thing if people cut down meat a little bit and especially now is so easy anyway.

It's a load of shit full of lies and propaganda.

If people don't want to eat meat for moral or environmental reasons then that's fine, but as usual the vegan community is trying to do the thing they're accusing the meat industry of doing, twisting "studies" to show their lifestyle is good.

The thing anyone should take from it is we should eat more unprocessed fruit and veg, but to just go plant based, well what if all I ate was white bread, it's plant based and good for you ?? Course not, and what are people predisposed to type 2 diabetes supposed to do, just eat plant based carbs and have high blood sugar.

Saying that I still liked the documentary haha it was interesting what it said about b12.

Aye we've been fed lies for years. The real propaganda comes from the meat and dairy industry. It's ridiculous how many of these companies pay for there own 'research' to suit there agenda. People need to educate the self's and not just write the program off or the message it's trying to get across.

People are writing it off cause it’s full of shit and inaccuracies. No good educating yourself with inaccurate material

It’s hard to know where to start with this because there’s runners in my club are militant vegan and are rapid and then lads and lasses who drink booze and eat meat and are equally fast.

I’m going to go vegan for a month after Christmas and see if I feel any different, my feeling though is that it’s very much personal choice rather than there being a right or wrong answer.

It's not as simple as Vegetarian/Vegan vs Meat-Eating

Who's healthier?

Case 1:
a) Vegetarian eating just a bag of chips for breakfast, dinner, tea and supper.
b) Meat-Eater fitting their macro and micro nutrients but eating Meat-based protein.

Case 2:
a) Vegetarian fitting their macro and micro nutrients but eating Plant-based protein.
b) Meat-Eater eating fast food 6 times a week, plenty of meat in them five guys burgers.

Typically the people arguing over these (myself included) aren't hitting macro and micro nutrients anyways and the most benefit would be seen there...

I wouldn’t disagree with you aye. Certainly from the runners I know they do feel like they are recovering quicker from marathons etc but I don’t know how much of that is just their general extremely high level of fitness rather than diet.

I’m not a huge lover of meat anyway so I’ll have a pop at it and see if I notice any difference.

Then there's the placebo effect to contend with... How much of thinking they will recover more quickly will lead them to do so, irrespective of whether they should or not. I find that side of things fascinating!

Completely agree, a lot of it is in the mind without a shadow of a doubt.

Personally I don’t cope great if I feel my preparation hasn’t been the best but these folks have tons and tons of experience and iron will in some cases.

Its been pilloried by the academic community for its highly selective representation of the research on the subject. The consensus is it verges on propaganda piece.

An entirely plant based diet is unlikely to be optimal for performance and health just as a predminantly meat based one isn't optimal.

There are a host of moral and ethical reasons to be vegan but let's not pretend elite performance is one of them when it's far from clear cut, if not outright untrue.

T2 diabetes is one thing that a plant based diet really is able to reverse tbh Lewby Pubey.
