Why would anyone be a prison officer?

yeast from the kitchen (if someone could lift you some). if not, bread. loads of sugar, cartons of orange juice.

somewhere warm and safe to put it

house block 6 in Northumberland, under the sinks in the bathroom.
It probably tasted a lot better, than some of the rubbish, I've threw down me neck, in the past.

There are loads of reasons why people enlist, including:

- a chance to supply drugs to make some extra coin.
- more chance of having sex.
- the power trip of wearing a uniform.
A love of shit and fans
Watching that latest series ,like the police force the dynamic of who is doing the job has changed . Young lasses ,unfit people and people who read the wrong brief before applying

My wife is a Prison officer and is currently signed off and going through counselling for PTSD from work place incidents.
You have to love your job to put up with the shit she goes through

it must take a special person with a strong mindset, to get up each day and in the knowledge that you could be assaulted (or worse) that day. most of the officers I came into contact with, were decent enough people and hats off to them. if they could see you just wanted to get the time done, as productively and positively as possible, then they'd help you to do that. I came across a few absolute wankers who seemed to want to do nothing but antagonise inmates and wind them up. you just had to remind yourself that your time in there, was relatively short and they had another 20 years or so of it, before they retired. I was out with one of my co accused last night for food and we were talking about the time in there then and some of the horror stories we're hearing, about conditions and some of the points that've been raised in this post.

anyway, back to the hooch. 10 hours until "the slag's head" opens its doors and about 12 hours until the first bill of the evening

Bork. I've drank some minging stuff in my time but I don't think I could stomach that

One of the local hospitals down here removed the hand sanitiser things from the reception of the hospital because people kept coming up in and filling up a plastic cup full of hand alcohol and leaving!

I've heard some mental shit mind, best to keep it off the board and probably wouldn't be believed by most anyway

No wonder. Was thinking it would do my head in if my lass was doing a job like that. Hope she is alright mate.

The sad thing is it took the service 3 months to sort out the counselling that made her head go, just left in the cold.

she loves her job so is hoping to be back next month.

Tough gig but someone’s gotta do it

Just watching a show now and it’s saying an officer is attacked every hour in this country.

Lass on saying she gets shit thrown at her, spat at, hit, threatened, abused etc.

Watching these fuckers (inmates) here and the way they go on I can not understand why people doing that job keep doing it. It must get to you having to be in that atmosphere day in day out. Had a look at their wages too and couldn’t believe how badly they’re paid. Absolutely disgraceful that. They deserve a medal putting up with all that man.

I've been to the Prison Officer's Conference - I was accepting a donation to our charity from them - and listened to some of the conference.
The things they have to endure is horrendous.

they are smugling on the side for the people in jail...

I was supposed to be attending an ARC last April for the HMPO positions in Durham, Anyway a few weeks before hand I got a start date for the job I'm currently working in, Just under a grand a year more for being assaulted, working long shifts and having to refrain from lacing into some fucker? No chance, think I'll enjoy drinking tea and working my own hours thanks.

Fair play to all that do it but my god the conditions / salary / benefits haven't half been stripped in the last 20 years.
