£200m Sunderland Blueprint

Pie in the sky.We ll see the same bluprint repirted in the Echo in 3 years time. The blueprint is pribably expected to be started in the year dot.

The pedestrian footbridge is needed. It will open the vaux site and sheepfolds stadium park up to each other.Lets not forget that footbridge was first envisaged circa 2002 but went to Gateshead instead with them getting the funding for it and Sunderland missing out ( again )
Not needed in the slightest. You’re crying about Gateshead nearly 20 years on. Get over it man there will be people working to make this happen that will have been in nappies back then.

I would hate to work in Newcastle City Centre.

Sunderland is ripe for development in my eyes, as we have more and more jobs coming in to the city centre, but also there is plenty of space for entertainment to be developed
Do you realise the space for leisure / entertainment development the clueless backward thinking Sund council have plans for predominantly housing.? Just thought id mention it.
Wrong they were first appointed in 1999.

When both sides of the river are eventually long overdue developed the footbtidge will be needed.Your type cant see further than their noses.

i think it would be class and definitely 'needed' if part of a bigger plan. the fire station/empire area is already taking shape nicely, keel square looks canny (although massively underused) and IF the vaux site and sheepfolds were to be developed successfully then a footbridge connecting the whole thing, and onto the stadium/aquatic centre would be class.

isn't sheepfolds being a developed a bit already? next to st.peters metro station i'm sure they are building some fancy houses down there.

Yes but until someone actually confirms it will definitely be developed over there then there’s no point. At the minute it would be a bridge to a scrapyard and a printers. There’s absolutely nothing there.

Yeah if all that does get developed then fine but it’s all ifs at the minute and it will be a waste of things stay the same

i don't think that it would get through planning, or even be submitted, in its current layout.

would be class having a footbridge there though, i know its not a million miles away from the town bridge but would be great for getting to and from the stadium

It'll be shite. I would rather walk over bridges in Newcastle as they are gid class and that.

Yeah it would be great but currently would be a lot of money for little use. Hopefully it’s required later when the city is bustling both sides of the river

Wrong. Tom McCartney was appointed CEO in 2002.

The idea of regeneration companies to develop brownfield sites with private money was first floated by Stephen Byers in 1999.

I agree, it’s trying to get businesses to think that way. They are really only interested in keeping their staff happy and trying to attract new staff therefore they often request as much car parking spaces as possible. Think Vaux outline consent is at something like 1 space for every 1,000 sq ft whereas a business park (like cobalt or doxford) is probably at 1 space for every 200 sq ft.
It needs to be attractive ( something for nowt or next to nowt)
If a multi story is built, free parking and charge for leccy cars, panels on the roof to pay for the free charge.
Free Park and ride from south hylton or Seaburn station with cheap travel on the metro or bus Lanes with pull in stops so they are kept clear all the way in to the town.
Mother Cornish lives near the navy club and it’s quicker to walk to the town than it is to get the bus most days.

Parking restrictions in the streets nearby and the lack of a car park would scupper any Seaburn park and ride. The reason parking restrictions were brought in was to stop people using it as a kind of park and ride funnily enough (mainly people working in Newcastle though).

What leisure / entertainment development are you wanting?

I’m sure the amount that can be supported could be delivered within the existing confines of the city centre...our leisure offer struggles now never mind more of it. Think they have said they plan for a new leisure attraction of sorts on Holmeside haven’t they?

Personally think the city centre is too big and needs to shrink and provided a better offer. At the moment there is just not enough passing trade for most shops, bars/restaurants/cafes.

Give over.....you grow by offering less?!!

Nah

The city centre dominates one side of the river.....it needs to expand to the north
