Is there any medicinal benefit in certain foods?

I had been fighting off mild cold symptoms for a few days, but on Saturday, my nose was streaming, I had a sore throat etc. When we went to Tesco, I saw taramasalata, and really wanted to get some, and got some. I ate 3/4 of a tub yesterday and finished it off today, and now I feel fine. I also heard something on the radio today about sailors who dreamed of vegetables when they were suffering from scurvy. Do you know of any foods that sort you out when you are I'll?, or is it just a coincidence?

You’d have probably felt better today anyway.

I’ve currently got a cold and I’m curing it with whisky and moping about being pathetic...neither will really help but they make me feel a bit better.

Ginger does it for me
Not personal experience for me, just saw a thing ages back on bbc2. They got three fellas who had erectile distinction and gave them garlic doses: one on odourless capsules; one on cooked cloves of garlic and the final one on raw cloves.

They varied the dose and the one that had the best effect was the raw cloves at 12 per day. The interview with him and his missus at the end was brilliant. The two of them grinning like Cheshire cats. She did say that the smell was terrible but she didn’t mind too much.

The odourless pills had zero effect.

I've taken vitamin B1 (thiamine) when suffering after drink for years, I really do find it makes a difference, sailors took lime for the vitamin deficiency condition (beri beri) hence why we in the UK are known in some quarters as 'limey's'
