last season leicesters squad cost (apparently) about 270m. west hams 230m. we could just buy their squad, but in reality it'll depend on how well we do in the transfer market and if we make profit on anyone we buy as we climb up the ladder. judging by our past record we'll probably have to spend 500m to get a squad worth 200m.

Exactly, we would have to pay out a ridiculous some to guarantee fast-tracking our way to be in the position of West Ham or Leicester before we are even able to spend that 250m to buy their squads. Not to mention the wage bill would probably mean we are losing between 30-100 million yearly.

I think I am misinterpreting some posters points when they speak of Prem as soon as possible to be able to make money.
Where did he state it was the fans money, honest question as i've never seen that before.

It was on the podcast mate, made a big thing about how the club spent the money because after all, it was essentially the fans money, they're just custodians ect..

I get what you’re saying m8, but don’t agree. Any owner saying that, it’s just rhetoric, they’ve put their own money, and time and effort, in to buying the club, bettering it, and perhaps moving it on. We are just customers giving them an income stream. The lower down we are the more important we as customers are, the higher up the club gets the more incidental we become. It’s our club via emotional attachment, in every other sense in the modern game it belongs to whatever mega rich owner or corporation owns the shares in the company.

I understand mate, I think it's my fault for getting roped into the owner's chat.

I'm just pissed off because they made such a big thing about honesty and openness. I said the exact same thing as you and the others under Ellis, just thought it was different this time.

What I don't understand is people seeing this as a bad thing. If they make us an established PL team and sell us for £300m more power to them. As long as SAFC is moving in the right direction I don't give a rats, also, why are we talking about how much they'll sell for when they haven't even bought us yet

Because they have this warped view that outside the Sunderland supporter bubble, we are the be all and end all when in reality we’re a business and potential investment opportunity for people who have looked at us objectively and decided we’re a distressed asset currently trading below our actual worth and that with some investment they can get a big return on that.
I don't understand your exasperation. I don't "grasp" that isn't worth their time due to it being based on because these people are rich, they don't wish to make a small profit.

As for the valuations on those clubs, do you see a line of buyers for the mags? How much exactly do you think they would have to lose to get us to the standard of Leicester?

I don't think this argument has been thought through.

Well given that Leicester’s squad cost £200 million and that the Leicester valuation is actually over £500 million I’d say not a great deal.

Crikey...

Ok, so how much will it cost to get us to the point of spending that 200m to be a good as Leicester?

Will the club continues to run even or will we lose money yearly?

If so, how much?

Has that been factored into your 50m (purchase) + 200m (because that definitely will buy you Leicesters squad) + X (the money we would have to spend to get into the premiership before we could buy Leicesters squad) + X (running profit/loss) = 500m value because a pdf says so?

Lets for pretend say what I think you're saying (im probably wrong) is in any way viable (it isn't), what makes 200m of interest to these people that doesn't make 20m profit of interest to them?

Rumours on 606 from Riv they are changing the badge soon

Why would they change the badge? They're investors, there to pump money in to where it's needed but so far rumours are:

They're extending the stadium - a not serious post that started in here.

They're developing the sheepfolds.

Now changing the badge.

I think some people get a bit carried away with themselves

If they seriously here for the long term, they may be looking to create a new identity for the club going forward, just a guess mind.

Well we will see wont we. If they dont change it have a pop then

On the money they are worth, they can earn whatever profit they might make on a quick sale in a week. It isn’t worth their while to go to this effort to flog us in 12-18 months. How do you not grasp that?

Well given that Palace are valued at up to £300 million, Newcastle up to £350 million and Leicester £370 million then if they buy us for £40 million they can make quite a bit.
Wasting ya time mate, theres posters on here whose threads have been merged to water down their negativity.

I think it would make sense. The current badge isn't wildly popular and tbh is by now associated with failure. It came when we moved into a new era at the Sol, makes sense they might want another change for this new era rather than keeping it for a while then maybe changing it later. It's often said that more simple badges are better financially anyway so it also makes sense in that regard. A whole new "branding" to go along with other changes they'll bring to the club, it's not an unreasonable claim imo
