My totally unfounded opinion is if they weren't prepared to watch Rochdale they wouldn't be buying us.

That's why I think it's more of a smart, medium term plan. With FFP it's hard to buy success at the moment.

It probably says a lot about how boring I am in real life but I'm more excited about smart fellas with a plan than simply tossing money at it.

Unless we toss money at it of course. Then I will get a shirt with Kane on the back and forget I don't particularly rate the Jimmy Hill lookalike.

As there appears to be bugger all happening on the takeover front, his seems the appropriate thread for a bit of background that may be of interest.

A few weeks ago, I'm pretty sure before it was mentioned in the press, my son (MLF) asked me if I'd heard anything about Dell and SAFC.

Being ITK, I told him if it was true then I'd bare my arse in Doggarts window.

Anyway when the news broke I emailed an old friend of mine who now owns a few businesses in the States and simply said why Dell and SAFC?

He has experience of management both in EFL and motor racing. He's usually very well informed in this sort of area and already knew of MSD.

This was his reply:

Simply because it's got Premier League potential. Football clubs in the US are not only trophy assets but they proved to be a good investment.

I think that Steve Ballmer the former head of Microsoft paid $2 billion for his and someone else paid a similar amount for the Houston Rockets basketball club last year.

On the basis that we always follow American trends (just think about sports salaries) there are people investing in UK and European football club's expecting them to rise in value in the same way.

I expect that one day a Formula One team will be worth $1 billion and that even a league one football team might be worth $50 million.

There you go - not earth shattering revelations but nevertheless quite interesting and should generate plenty of squabbles.
 
Ensure cat 1.
Improve scouting network 10 fold.
Assess team and manager with view to January window.
Rename the stadium for lots of sponsorship income.

Isnt the nfl a fixed league with no relegations and a salary cap?So the clubs will have a guarenteed minimum revenue! This might happen if they create a european super league of all the best football clubs in europe!

There is a big difference to owning a franchise to a club though. Just the fact they are investing in a League One club with potential suggests they know There won't be a buyer in the medium term.

They must have a plan. They must be aware of FFP. I get the feeling these billionaires are a bit smarter than me so that gives me hope.

No idea mate. Would hope that there is an investment in people that know football to run the club. Pity the thread was merged as it was a good stand alone thread. Not a criticism of anyone, but it was a welcome break mate ;) 👍

We’re a shed find. A dilapidated 1930’s Bentley that needs the money and know how to coax us back into life and restore us to our former glory after 80 odd years of filler and bodge jobs.

Obviously It’s going to take a while for any serious potential investor to get us up on the ramps to have a good poke around to see if we’re worth salvaging.


I just hope they just don’t find too much rust 😩

I can understand that, having a billion pounds and finding a football club that got under the skin it would be easy to sign up to it and put a few million aside (even crazy amounts were in the pipeline)

When your business acumen finally kicked in so does your brain when you realise you have wasted millions of pounds.

Agreed.
I said to my sons when talk of this takeover first arose that if we got the deal done then it was likely to be the start of something unprecedented at our club as fellas as wealthy as these aren’t going to get involved to play at it.
Good times ahead if we get it done, hopefully we’ll be sorted in the next week or so and then it’s onward and upward.
