Why did school teachers have odd names you never hear off?

Nowt particularly unusual about any of mine... Mrs Power, Mrs Ann, Mr Hannington, Miss Plane, Mrs Milne, Mr Urwin, mr Early all the rest really normal names and most fairly decent teachers. Can’t remember the name of the little Scottish blonde P.E teacher from Farringdon though, she started in 89 - I would’ve happily been the victim of noncing with her. Lush she was.

I had a maths teacher at AHS called Mr Carnaffan. Never heard the name before or since.
